I've moved the Harper/Papelbon discussion to its own thread. Let's try to keep that discussion there.

The Angels take over the second wild-card spot from the Astros, who lost in Seattle.

Lester's final stats. 32 starts, 205 innings, 47 walks, 207 k's, 3.34 era.
His team won 94 games so far, and made the playoffs, yes a one game play in. I think the added revenue from ticket sales and Tv/radio ratings will be huge. Those that poo poo the one game play in are wrong. It means plenty, look at how bad the sox ratings went. Sox are lucky not to have to worry about butts in the seats.
No idea if there is a stat for what he does for the bullpen, but common sense says he helps it.

Loyalty and other sentiments aside; "Ace" and "#1" labels aside; benefits of Porcello and Cespedes aside, Jon Lester would have made the team befter tbis year, likely retained John Lackey who would also have maxe the team befter this yeaf, and prevented the need for an expensive 30yr old FA or prospect intense trade for 2016. That stupid $70M offer (whoever made it) was very costly to 2015 and 2016.

I don't think anyone was thinking that Lester would bomb in year one of his deal. Let's revisit in 2020 and see how it worked out.

@bnightengale: The #Reds' 13-game losing streak is longest since 1945; but #Reds still plan on bringing back manager Bryan Price.

Not sure why you'd use exit velocity rather than something contact-based as the hitting tool - a methodology that gives Wily Mo Pena a better hit tool than Wade Boggs might be broken - but other than that, cool stuff.

Bryan Price will apparently return to the Reds next season. He owes Matt Williams a thank you card.

I have never seen this mentioned until I just read it, but Masterson just had shoulder surgery. That probably explains why his velocity was down to 86/87. I'd probably sign him to a minor league deal with incentives.

Prince Fielder is playing in his 159th game this year. This year and last are his only full years less than 160.
I'll take him any year and take my chances.
Mark B will pitch 2 innings today and retire as a Blue Jay. It will be his 15th year in a row with 200 innings. Lester can't touch him because of one year in the 190's. All 3 can play for me.
Have to love baseball,MB gets knocked out in the first, Gods speed sir.

Ichiro pitched today and he had a pretty nasty slide piece. I hope it wasn't a gimmick indicating that he's retiring (ie Buehrle)
I don't care if he has a .400 OPS and plays the OF for Boston, I want him to get to 3,000 MLB hits. And Ichiro is just fun in general.

On the one hand, of course you want him to do what he needs to do for his life and his family, and baseball could come second, but wow is that horrible timing for the Yankees.

Remember that time he screwed up Jackie Bradley for two years with one pitch?
Not sure he'd have made the postseason roster, to be honest - not that it's especially material. I hope he gets himself the care he needs and that he can get to a healthy lifestyle, whether that includes baseball or not. Alcoholism sucks.

Anyone able to compile a list of extensions signed during this season which bought out FA years? I feel like there were a ton in 2014 and almost none this season.
I could be completely wrong about that though.
