It's just spring training but... Betts is ridiculous, he really is. He worked Harvey for a pitch he could crush, then blasts one of Syndergard's out to that triangle. He's going to have a reputation before he ever starts starts a full season.

Alex Speier ?@alexspeier 1m1 minute ago Kelly says he doesn't think he'll need an MRI. Doesn't feel like it was a big deal.

That reputation will lead to a skyrocketing walk rate. You mean... he should be the leadoff hitter?? Ha. And him being on base is going to ensure Pedroia sees a lot of nice pitches given that pitchers have to worry about Betts. #betterthanEllsbury

it's a good thing Bicepts tightness is never a precursor to TJS. Thankfully TJS is so rare these days that's not a concern.

Although statsgeeks don't consider it important, I'm guessing Mookie leads baseball in runs scored.

Spring being showcased. How else would you explain our backup catcher only having 9 ABs ?

Remember when Lackey did the same thing in early 2013 and everyone thought the world ended?

Go Matt Spring.
LOL win for the Sox but according to the announcer, the Sox would likely have scored if Spring's 2nd double didn't get hung up in the netting in front of the Monster seats.
It still seems very strange to me that Hanigan hasn't gotten much playing time.

Hannigan is a veteran who's older now so he is the type of guy who won't get much especially early.

It still seems very strange to me that Hanigan hasn't gotten much playing time. Innings caught after today's game: Swihart: 32 Vazquez: 22 Quintero: 21 Hanigan: 21 Spring: 10 It's not that Hanigan hasn't gotten much playing time, but that Swihart has. And remember that we aren't aware of who's catching what bullpens and the like. I could see Vazquez and Hanigan being asked to catch more MLB pitcher bullpens in the morning, and thus given more days off from games in the early going.

I bet he came out of this game because Wright pitched.

I bet he came out of this game because Wright pitched. It is interesting that Wright threw to Swihart his first two appearances and Spring in his last two, those being two of Spring's three appearances. 3/3 vs. BC - Wright comes in with Swihart in the fifth (of seven innings) 3/7 - Wright starts with Swihart 3/11 - Wright pitches the ninth to Spring 3/16 - Wright enters in the sixth with Spring I don't think, necessarily, that they're protecting Hanigan from Wright so much as they're having Wright throw to catchers he worked with recently so that he can throw and not worry about lots of passed balls. Coming in with a catcher, in today's case, could be done to simulate starting conditions - you warm up in the bullpen with the guy who's going to catch you during the game. I don't think it's anything special they're doing for him in that sense. I'm sure he's working with Hanigan in bullpens and the like, and Vazquez has experience with him.

Can't find it now, but there was a tweet to the effect that Hannigan was fine, just didn't want to be catching Wright for the first time in a game.
EDIT:
Here it is -
Pete Abraham ?@peteabe 4h4 hours ago Hanigan is fine. Just wasn't going to catch Wright for the first time while in a game.
