That was not a +25 fielding performance by Victorino.

Sandoval would be more infuriating than AJP if it weren't for all those hits. Looks like he's playing golf out there.

Twins TV announcer just had a revolutionary idea. He suggested you could platoon Victorino and Nava.

Twins TV announcer just had a revolutionary idea. He suggested you could platoon Victorino and Nava. More revolutionary than anything Don/Jerry come up with. I watched the game yesterday, they literally went Margot's entire at-bat without saying a thing other than "signed out of the DR in 2011". I mean they can't even google "Top 10 Red Sox prospects" and read from there? It's pathetic.

In the grand scheme of things, if they don't win the World Series, I don't really care where they finished. Were the last place finishes worse than 2003/1986/1978/1975/etc.? If they didn't punt at the trade deadline in 2012 or 2014, they probably could have finished close to .500 and not in last, but who really cares about that? I know it sounds horrible to finish last, but it's really not for me. Those last lace finishes definitely were worse. In those other seasons there was 2-3 months of additional competitive baseball. There was hope, suspense,. All of that makes baseball more fun to watch. It isn't just about the retrospective look back at the season. It is about the pleasure of experiencing the season as it happens. Absolutely. While it was in progress, 2003 was probably the most fun I've ever had as a baseball fan, right up until the eighth inning of Game 7. That's what made the end so upsetting.

The 2003 team won 95 games, though, and was one of the two or three best teams in the AL. That's not a good comp for the 2012/2014 teams, whose ceilings around the trade deadline were something like mid-80s wins and contending for the second wild card. If you're choosing between (a) something like a 20% shot of making it into a play-in game or (b) selling at the trade deadline and getting prospects, playing time for your young players, and a better draft pick, I think choosing the latter is probably the right move.

Sure, I agree with all of that. However, earlier in the posting chain was... if they don't win the World Series, I don't really care where they finished. Were the last place finishes worse than 2003/1986/1978/1975/etc.? I can't understand thinking that 2003 and 2012 were somehow similar in any way.
