Yeah, that GB single was hard-hit, but a better defensive SS probably at least knocks it down.
Masterson's command is not super sharp tonight. 47 pitches through two innings and lots of deep counts.

I think he lost it in the grey sky. Also that's why you don't want Holt playing SS. He has little range. It's not like Bogaerts gets to that ball. Marrero maybe, but his hitting right now is not comparable to Holt.

Also, after years of Varitek and Salty it's a delight to finally have some catchers that can throw a guy out. Not that Vazquez couldn't

For me, Masterson loss of velocity has been the most worrisome aspect of this team pitching...even more than Buchholz lack of consistency. 84-86 mph Sinkers? There's not SSS excuses to that!

Did you think a .714 BABIP can't be improved upon? Think again!

I cant remember a pitcher dropping 10mph on his fastball over the course of his two year prime without needing major surgery. Masterson probably isnt making it to the all star break

I cant remember a pitcher dropping 10mph on his fastball over the course of his two year prime without needing major surgery. Masterson probably isnt making it to the all star break You're exaggerating things a bit. Here are Masterson's average April sinker velos over the past few years: 2011: 92.5 2012: 90.5 2013: 91.0 2014: 89.5 2015: 87.7 (SSS/cold early season weather alert) A 3+ mph velo drop over two years is still pretty significant (and certainly a big red flag), but it's hardly unprecedented. Felix Hernandez's velo dropped from 94.1 in 2010 to 90.2 this season, for instance.

Craig or Hanley at 3rd if panda has to leave? Holt, with Mookie moving to SS obviously.

Both Holt and Nava give the team superior bench depth. The offense hardly skips a beat it seems. Where's guidas? Strasberg withering also.

Strasburg kept pounding Hanigan in the zone with FBs, and Hanigan outlasted him. Just a really plucky at-bat from a guy with limited batspeed.

This offense, if healthy, is going to be disgustingly good.

Holt is having a great start for a bench guy. Probably the best utilityman you can have on any team. His great start reminds me of Nick Punto, who had one great game at the start or the 2012 season. As a result of that, he had a pretty high batting average for a couple games. I will never forget when Punto pinch hit in the ninth inning two games in a row, games that the Sox were losing. I don't know if it was because of his inflated batting average or if it was Bobby Valentine being Bobby Valentine. Nick Punto pinch hitting??!! 2012 was a very forgettable season. www.baseball-reference.com/players/gl.cgi?id=puntoni01&t=b&year=2012

Masterson is going to be out of the rotation rather quickly IMO.
As soon as one of ERod, HOwens or BJohn are ready.

Napoli has a hole in his glove. 3 balls he just missed in these last two innings.
