My very uneducated, gut feel prediction on bonuses for the first 10 rounds: Player | Slot | Projected | Difference | Benintendi | $3,590,400 | $3,250,000 | $340,400 | Rei | $742,400 | $742,400 | $0 | Matheny | $512,700 | $512,700 | $0 | Rusconi | $384,000 | $300,000 | $84,000 | Lakins | $287,500 | $287,500 | $0 | Taylor | $215,500 | $10,000 | $205,500 | Allen | $175,100 | $750,000 | ($574,900) | Tubbs | $163,500 | $10,000 | $153,500 | Gunsolus | $152,700 | $10,000 | $142,700 |
Total savings: $351,200 5% overage: $311,190 Money available over the base $100K in rounds 10+: $662,390

Total savings: $351,200 5% overage: $311,190 Money available over the base $100K in rounds 10+: $662,390 Probably reasonable. I'd hope they could get Matheny at under-slot. Rei is probably a slot sign. Allen probably deserves 4th-round money, but I agree that it's likely to take more than that to sign him. Fwiw, he even *looks* like Lester. 1.bp.blogspot.com/-4DDyh9jnJu4/VXdSu6lPM_I/AAAAAAAABUU/iLHx4FozRRY/s1600/Logan%2BAllen%2B%2528PG%2529.jpg

I feel like one of the seniors, maybe Taylor, will get decent money. The Mike Adams debacle has me skeptical is all. No other reason.

Taylor seems to have his upside as a reliever if he gets much, if the scouting linked here is correct.

Matheny should be able to stick in CF for a while. Plays about as shallow a CF as I've seen a college kid ever play. His isn't slow for a CF (not sure where that is coming from) and gets great jumps on balls hit toward him.

Nothing to do with the Sox draft, though was taking a peek at MLB's front page and noticed Kirk Gibson's kid, Cam got drafted again, after the whirl of the draft had calmed down some.
I fondly remember right after his dad was drafted and sent here to Lakeland to begin his minor league career, under the tutelage of Jimmy Leyland no less.

I think Matheny should come cheaper. He should come 100k. I think Rei should go 75k under slot. I agree with Chris that Taylor might get above 10k, maybe 50k.
Great job Chavopepe!

I think Matheny should come cheaper. Why? He was ranked 107th by BA and drafted 111th.

I'm a little bit surprised that some are projecting Rusconi to sign underslot. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think a single HS player has signed underslot for the Red Sox in Rounds 1-10 since the new rules were implemented. When we thought Ockimmey and Steen may have been underslot last year because they had little to no hype, we later learned they were both overslot picks.

Jamie Callahan signed for $56,000 less than slot in the 2nd Round in 2012. Jordan Weems signed for way underslot in 2011. It happens.

If there's one common thread that I've noticed the past several years, it's that we all tend to think player X will sign for less and it doesn't happen. Loads of talk about this every year with at least one or two players.
I think we have enough left for good post round 10 signing or two intriguing ones. We'll draft a couple of each to see what we can do. They'll also draft somebody there's no chance hell they can sign, but a number of members will lie to themselves and say "Well, if we....." and it will never happen. We'll just hear about the possiblity of it happening for what feels like forever.

Trey Ball and Jamie Callahan both signed for under slot.

I think Matheny should come cheaper. Why? He was ranked 107th by BA and drafted 111th. It's just hope more than anything. Maybe because he has just averagish tools perhaps? I asked Amfox earlier during the draft and he kicked the possibility also, reason being you don't insult the kid of a manager, which made sense.

This is only the third time since 1999 that a shortstop was not drafted in the first ten rounds. The other times were in 2013 and 2003. I guess they figure they have enough shortstops for a while.

Thank God he could throw to a catcher pretty effectively. I guess you would call him a one-tool player. Love him on OUR mound for sure!

I'd of placed this in DAY 1, but it is locked. Andrew Benintendi intrigues me a lot as a player, and he reminds me of one of most favorite players in the middle to late 60's..... Johnny CallisonHere is what he did for his career: www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/callijo01.shtml Check his stats. Notice the size. Johnny at 5'10" and 175 lbs was not a big man, but boy could he put a charge into a ball. He was a superior right fielder on those excellent Phillies' teams from 64 to 67 that had a fellow by the name of Richie Allen (Dick Allen). They also had congressman Jim Bunning and Chris Short in their rotation. Look at his extra base hits and not just his homers, which for several years were quite amazing. Now who knows if he ever even can hold Callison's jock, but Benintendi's size does not mean he can't be a top-of-the-order producing outfielder for us. As someone else stated, Willie Mays and Henry Aaron were not at all big themselves.....and you probably heard of them somewhere. Looking forward to following Andrew!
