Is it presumed that, with the draft setup as it is now, most of the top players still left will be snapped up relatively quickly, so if the Sox want a relatively prominent overslot player they'll have to draft him right away? Or will there still be notable leftovers still around in the late teen/20's rounds?

I would love to see the Sox draft Jon Duplantier today. He would be a tough sign as a draft-eligible sophomore, but I'm anticipating them taking a decent amount of signability guys today.

Is like us to pick Max Schrock today. He battled some injuries at USC but rebounded to 2nd team all SEC at 2B this year hitting .328/419/500 with 6 HRs and 32BB/18Ks. He played a little corner OF and doesn't turn 21 until Oct.

Other guys I like:
Gio Brusa: highly rated coming into the year but hasn't stayed healthy Marcus Brakeman: good when healthy but a lot of durability issues Kyri Washington: Super raw as a hitter but huge ceiling if he can figure it out. AJ Simcox: good defender but questionable hit tool Tucker Forbes: huge 6-8 RHP reliever who doesn't have a lot of miles on the arm

Nick Longhi was selected in the 30th Round, Fulmer in the 15th, Speier in the 19th, etc.

Some other teams took some of the signability overslot guys in the 3rd and 4th rounds.

I'd say the overslot guys will go in rough relation to how signable teams think they are. Karsten Whitson goes in the 11th because he's likely to sign. Alex Bregman and Ryan Boldt you take fliers on later on so you can get to know them and that kind of thing, but not worth wasting one of the earlier picks on if you could've had an above-slot guy that was going to sign.
On one of the examples who seems to buck that trend, I believe Longhi was thought to be a much harder sign than he turned out to be.
Myself, I'll probably pay attention to like, the first five rounds today to see if they go in hard like they did last year on 11-13, then check back at the end. The first five rounds on day 3 are where they've tried to get at least one overslot, or at least highly-regarded lottery ticket-type, guy they were going to make a run at (Fulmer, Sheffield, the Whitson-Beeks-Shepherd trio and then Kemp last year).

John Aiello is one of the players I'm hoping the Red Sox nab. I really thought Kep Brown would make it to round 11, good pick for STL if they can get him signed.

Day 3 is my favorite day. I'm sure the Red Sox will draft a Donny Everett, Justin Hooper or Chandler Day etc. and everyone will be happy. I can guarantee they 100% won't sign.

I'm sure his tools are all natural and he may even share a nickname with that kid from "Outside Providence"! The possibilities are endless.

Even though I know many of the most exciting players won't sign it's fun picking 30 players and guessing what's going to happen with them.

If Red Sox stick to their 2-sport player philosophy it will be interesting to see if they just take Jameis Winston for the hell of it and retain his rights.

I could see them not wanting to deal with the PR though. Different when it's Driskel, Brandon Magee, etc. I don't think it made it onto the podcast, but Kiley had a great anecdote that I don't think he'd mind me sharing on Driskel. He and some scouts were at pro day at UF, and the football team was practicing on the football field behind them. One of the scouts with him said something like "too bad the best baseball player here is over there," referring to Driskel. Anyway, no real reason for it, but I'm getting a strong Justin Hooper vibe today. Agree he wouldn't sign though.

And then there will be people who whine and question their life choices. And call the Red Sox dumb for not showing up at their houses with a briefcase of cash.
