Castillo has to sit for De Aza and now has to go to AAA for Masterson? Man, if you are a Red Sox rookie you better know that if you don't come out of the gate swinging like an All Star you ARE going to get jerked around by this Manager in favor of some over the hill veteran non performer. Thought maybe they would learn from the Stephen Drew/Bogey fiasco from last year but i guess not. I shared your angst on the Bogey situation last year, but I don't think this is the product of the Manager with Castillo. If it is, he has far too much power, I believe this decision has the tacit approval from the FO and the baseball guys, who probably don't see him helping the club at this time. As far as Castillo...I would quote Fat Clemenza at the end of this clip.

"If we beat them tonight, we sweep the remaining games.....don't count us out....don't count us out...Don't let us win tonight....just don't let us win, you hear me? don't let us win......We have Pedey tomorrow, Schill in game 6, and after that, all bets off...." ....Kevin Millar, October 2004 before Sox delivered the crushing blow in the ALCS against you know who.....
I like this line of thinking...
Welcome to the site Proud, and I appreciate the clarification. I just don't have the memory for some of these quotes, etc.
Thanks for the welcome....the quote is not perfect (some reference to the Shank playing second base, batting ninth, and the Red Sox would still win), but its from one of the best clips I have ever seen on the Sox....Four Days in October.........some fantastic moments in there....for those who have never seen it, its epic.....
Seen it like 30 times, and it always give me the inspiration to keep the faith in these Dark Ages....

My biggest gripe right now is Ortiz in the cleanup spot. If this team wants to make a run, he needs to be hitting 6th.

Fun facts, from an ESPN comment I just made:
The Sox system has produced 4 of the 19 players age 25 and under with 1.8 fWAR or better (the others being Anthony Rizzo and Jose Iglesias), which is more than 6 times as many as the average MLB club.
But wait, there's more. All but 5 of those 19 players were 1st or 2nd round draft picks or got a huge international bonus (Iglesias). The Sox system produced 3 of the 5 (the others are Joc Pederson and Kevin Kiermaier). That's 18 times as many as the MLB average.
(In Iglesias and Bogaerts, we also have the only two international players.)

Joe Kelly is the worst. Please get rid of his ***. He's just unlucky. The BABIP bit him. Then, some centrifugal force pushed that bloop by Laugh into the bleachers.

Was Shelby Miller offered in the Lackey package? If so we picked the wrong guy.

He's a horrible pitcher so far, I doubt that he'll be a good reliever.

He's a horrible pitcher so far, I doubt that he'll be a good reliever. Relief is a different game though. I would be in favor of a Johnson trial, but I fear Masterson would move back into the rotation first, in which case I'd rather stick with Kelly.

I thought at the time they acquired him that Kelly was a solid bet to become a very good reliever, and with enough upside that he deserved a chance to start.
I still believe the first part.

Its clear that there's no expectations to win games so sure why not. The truly disgusting thing is the fact that fans paid to see this guy stink up the joint.

John Farrell does not make the roster decisions. The front office does.
