We keep typing this stuff but they don't get it that's why they are in last place. we keep asking why? There's like 4 or 5 moves they can make in the pitching they don't want to do it.

So are we allowed to talk about Mike Napoli in this game day thread? Or is it frowned upon like it was in the Royals game thread? I'm asking for a friend. You can post all you want about Napoli. Other posters can also call you out for being repetitive and whiny. Pointing out every day that Napoli stinks might make you feel better, but it isn't particularly incisive, witty, or interesting. So do what you gotta do.

The Temperature is running hot tonight on the Game Thread. If the game can't be enjoyable, at least this is.
Sadly, the Lackey trade has turned into an abject failure. Not going to blame FO, we were sold a bill of goods by that no good, low down, cheatin' ST. Louis Cardinals organization.

Joe Kelly to the pen sounds better and better every time I see Any reliever other than Taz or Koji. Mediocre as it gets

Interesting take, considering a quick search of this board and the gameday archive board shows that I've mentions Napoli just 10 times in all the gameday threads I've posted in all year. I guess discussing arguably our worst hitter is too much to ask for. And hell, I've said it before and will continue to say it, I'm used to having strong opinions that are often the opposite of the usual opinions and if people don't like and I'm not going to change because it some people rubs people the wrong way.

I think I would rather have Allen Craig than Napoli now. He looks attrocious. I know its beating a dead horse, but Allen Craig couldn't be worse than this could he?

I thought at the time they acquired him that Kelly was a solid bet to become a very good reliever, and with enough upside that he deserved a chance to start. I still believe the first part. You should have to explain why he would be a very good reliever when you write this. He already throws hard, with movement. He really doesn't strike guys out with great frequency, more to the point he really doesn't get guys out with much frequency at all. Honestly wondering how that role would be better use of his abilities. Maybe as a low lev guy, but we already have enough average relievers. He gets a lot of rope because he throws hard and everyone keeps waiting for that to translate, but he doesn't seem a good fit for this team, in this division.

Your question is whether a player who has hit .130/.235/.192 since joining the Red Sox could possibly be worse than someone hitting .203/.299/.387 this season. Yes, it is definitely possible that Allen Craig is worse than Mike Napoli. I often make fun of people who get overly excited about new toy prospects, but Allen Craig is only a fun new toy if you lack object permanence.

You're describing Andrew Miller's career as a starter.

Its pretty pathetic how this team is unable to string together any kind of streak, momentum doesnt seem to exist for this team.

Farrell's post game interview hinted that Napoli will be out of the lineup tomorrow and that Kelly very well may leave the rotation. Really hope they go with Johnson. Maybe Masterson and Kelly could patch up the pen.

I was one of the biggest Kelly supporters here but it is time to do something different with him. I think he should go to Pawtucket as a reliever. Maybe the same thing could happen to him that happened to Pat Light. They both throw close to 100 MPH and they both have good sinkers. They both had command problems as starters.
I think they had to bring up Masterson as a good faith thing, but I don't expect him to last long - unless. of course, he can pitch better than he has in a while. If he doesn't do that, the Sox will DFA him, or trade him, or both. That will be the time to bring up Johnson.
Sending Castillo to Pawtucket makes a lot of sense. Once the catching situation improves they can bring him back, or bring up JBJ, which is what I think they should do.

Red Sox AL positional rankings (by wRC+) RF: 15 1B : 15 C: 13 I'd hate to be a fan of the 2 teams with worse catching. I think Hannigan's rehab should involve a plane flying over McCoy on it's way to Fenway.
