Good to see Romero promoted. Thankfully the knee-jerk notion that Dombrowski was going to come in and take a wrecking ball to the entire system seems to have been unfounded.

Brad Sloan is an interesting name for me. He was horrible as the farm director with the Padres, but extremely respected as a scout. I wonder if his hire means increased interest in the Far East.

Pretty clear from the timing of this announcement that Ben lost out on the first base gig to Amaro.

At this time last year, the idea of BC becoming an employee of Columbia University, while DD, Wren, and RAJ became part of the Boston Red Sox organization would have sounded bonkers.

What's the old phrase? Those who can't...teach. Last time I checked he had Won a World Series in the "did" column.

What's the old phrase? Those who can't...teach. Absolutely. And of that group, those who can't teach spend their days trolling the Internet.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Yankees tried to hire Cherington following his resignation from the division-rival Red Sox in August. “I reached out to him,” Cashman told Sherman. “I have a lot of respect for him, his integrity and how he did his job.” Sherman notes that Cherington could have conceivably become an assistant GM when Billy Eppler left to go become the Angels’ GM, but Eppler’s responsibilities go to top scout Tim Naehring, as has been previously reported. Cherington will eventually join a front office, but for the time being, his role at Columbia makes sense, as his wife and children were living in suburban New York even while he was Boston’s GM. www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/10/front-office-notes-jennings-anthopoulos-klentak-cherington-chavez.html?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

Alex Speier, in his newsletter today, lays out a cogent analysis of the Dave Dombrowski era so far:

I thought that last paragraph was the money line in the piece. It's clear that business is being done much differently, but I think it's more than that the "he's gunna trade all the prospecktz" thing many were worried about.

What he isn't afraid to do is pay sticker price for the guy he wants even if he might get a better deal elsewhere. I'm still waiting for the next one. If he holds our top 4 prospects right now, I wouldn't complain about a thing. But I don't want them dipping into those top 4 guys for someone like Shelby Miller. They could afford Price because of those guys. You can't sign Price and then also trade them.

I have been thinking the very same thing. The guy did not mess around. Most would say Kimbrel was an overpay but we were desperate in the pen and desperate to turn things around quickly. We had some surplus...let's get it done. We got Price in similar manner. Yes it was probably a marketplace overpay but we had owners willing to spend...let's get it done. With the pressure lessoned, the last trade was much more balanced from an absolute value standpoint. I would expect DD to continue to operate in this latter mode now that much heavy lifting has been done. I don't think there is much question that Dombrowski is leading the charge up San Juan Hill.

I've been very happy with DD's performance so far, but when I saw they were interested in Shelby Miller....I got real worried! I like Miller OK, but the Braves have been adamant about receiving top young talent and there is no way.....NO WAY....he interests me enough to give our top guys for him. Now if you are talking Jose Fernandez....different game. I do like what he has achieved so far. Really looking forward to the season again, but hopefully (unless we are talking Harvey or Fernandez) leave Bennitendi, Anderson Espinoza, Moncada, and Devers alone. And I'm against touching Swihart too for someone like Miller.

Dave is not ___ing around. Say what you want, but it's a breath of fresh air to have a team that makes the correct decision to win. And dose it in the correct way. I have a good feeling about this year. There may be some moves that are tough to swallow but this team is out to win.

Alternatively, he's being wildly overreactionary out of necessity because of a poor offseason plan.

Alternatively, he's being wildly overreactionary out of necessity because of a poor offseason plan. "poor offseason plan" 1A -gave LF to best option not most expensive player 1B- gave 3B to beat option not most expensive player Neither of these players were from this offseason 2- gave starting catcher job to beat option. When better option was healthy enough to play made the switch 3- used best option for number 5 starter. And aquiring a top 5 ace and top 5 closer were not good moves??
