Pinch hitter Sandy Leon replaces David Ortiz.
Uh, what?

Who "pulls" the DH (as reported on YES) and sends him to the showers before his turn comes up? And before the 7th inning?
Is it THAT grueling sitting on the bench, watching the game?

It's the manager decision for not to come back from down by 7 runs to within 4 runs with the one swing of Ortiz for HR #496. He pulled him out of the game before it's his turn.

I sure wish Mookie and Papi were still in the game.

Can someone explain to me why they've had their worst hitter batting second?
Seems dumb.

The 1-5 should all have Betts, Blake, Jackie, Xander in it.

Can someone explain to me why they've had their worst hitter batting second? They're playing an episode (granted, a very long episode) of Bizarro Lineup. It's modeled after a Seinfeld episode, which was modeled after a comic book episode. It's sometime fun! (not so much with Pablo)

What the hell's going on here? Why is this a football game? And why is Leon channeling Ortiz?
Add: Damn. Is it that serious? Why are they bringing in Miller?

Really nice game for Swihart. I'm really impressed with him. He's got a pretty good line for a catcher, especially one who was brought up early.

So, Swihart is going to be playing first over the winter, right?

So, Swihart is going to be playing first over the winter, right? Well something has to give. How to get Vasquez and Swihart full time duty? I think you could absolutely have Swihart and Vasquez split time at catcher next year to better determine their value/if Vasquez is back to form. A decision on catcher of the future does not have to be made this offseason. Getting Swihart some reps at first base to give Christian extra games next season isn't a bad idea, but Swihart should absolutely not be the team's everyday 1B.

This one's been batted around for a while. You watch Swihart and the guy is so athletic, you can smell a decent player - given time - at a few positions. And the hitting has gotten so much better so quickly. Do they want to do that? He's going to be one of the hottest trade chips on the market. How about Vazquez? His defensive reputation is very high, and probably highly valued by a few organizations. What do you do, keep both? Hanigan is also on board for a few more years, I believe. He's brought a bit to the lineup. Do you keep or trade him?
This may be one reason why Henry brought Dombrowski on board. His head may hurt as much as ours' do thinking about this stuff. One thing I know, all the talent is starting to show up for a lot of these guys. Looks like Owens had a bad day. It's tougher for pitchers, and takes a little longer.
Good hitting and good fielding for the most part. Lots of running on the bases. This sure looks like part of the next great team.

At some point, the Red Sox will probably have to trade one of their catchers. But if they trade either of them this off-season, they will be selling low -- way low.

Hard to say it would be selling low on Swihart, if he keeps playing like he is hard to imagine his value climbing much farther (obviously unless he plays like this over a full season next year in which case he'd become pretty much untradeable.

Hanigan is also on board for a few more years, I believe. He's brought a bit to the lineup. Do you keep or trade him? Hanigan is signed for 2016, with a team option for 2017 (and a buyout, if not exercised). Don't know the answer to your question yet. DD could trade any of the three catchers, and who he trades may depend on the relative offers and who he is able to sign in FA. Swihart could fetch a monster package in trade.
