That was a cookie, but good for Shaw for gobbling it up, esp from a lefty.

I'm skeptical that Shaw can keep this up for a whole season, but I think his swing is beautiful. Looks kind of like A-Gon's with that front leg lift.

Noe Ramirez' changeup looked really good this outing. Something to build on for next season.

Xander Bogaerts, above average defender... Xander Bogaerts, above average hitter the other way...
The only thing currently missing is power/pure hitting ability, which is arguably what the biggest positive was of him as he rose through the system.
He's developed in every other facet more than I thought he would, certainly before his 23rd birthday. Superstar potential, and he might not even be the best of the two Red Sox guys born in the first 8 days of October 1992

I have seen many comments on that Fangraphs article and in other places stating their concerns about how he has "no power", doesn't walk and this season is a BABIP fueled fluke. In one year at 22 he has essentially eliminated his two major weaknesses: defense and outside pitches. It's clear that he specifically worked to achieve these goals. I can't wait until he gets working on another one.

But I also think his power is there/will come, which will not only offset his decrease in overall hits/BA but be more valuable

Not that anyone cares but Mookie in center cost us that game. I made this case before JBJ was good, and was called basically a fool by the mods

Not that anyone cares but Mookie in center cost us that game. I made this case before JBJ was good, and was called basically a fool by the mods The proposed move of Jackie to center and Mookie to right has been slow in happening. Why? I understand we may see the change as soon as Friday. Hopefully once JBJ gets back into center we will see some offense return. This latest trend has me greatly worried. I could care less if we win a game. Bradley needs to show up again in the box score positively for me to be happy.

I made this case before JBJ was good, and was called basically a fool by the mods To be clear, I did not disagree with the idea that Bradley is one of the best defensive center fielders in baseball. I disagreed with the idea that Bradley was "leaps and bounds" better defensively than Betts. Last night's play aside, if Bradley is a +15 center fielder, Betts is +10-- close enough that the difference in arm might make Bradley a better fit in RF. Also, nowhere in the thread did I call you a fool.

Despite being the Orioles broadcaster he is very much a Red Sox fan, closeted or not.

I can attest, however, after meeting them in Potomac and watching some of that game with them, that at least one of Brian's kids is perhaps the most attentive at a baseball game I've ever seen. 65-70 grade focus for his age with potential to improve barring the potential downfalls of the addition of a smartphone. Haha ... yeah, he's a real baseball fan. Literally within the first 10 days of this season, he started saying when seeing Sandoval up at bat, "Ah, Pablo Sandoval, always finding a way to end the inning." I told him that Sandoval was pretty good, and he just shook his head. That heady mix of pride and humiliation when you get schooled by your third grader...

I'm skeptical that Shaw can keep this up for a whole season, but I think his swing is beautiful. Looks kind of like A-Gon's with that front leg lift. I love Shaw as a bench guy who you're ok with starting for a few weeks to a month and using when the matchup is good, provided a) he can learn to play a little LF, and b) he's able to hit getting that kind of playing time, which isn't a given. Noe Ramirez' changeup looked really good this outing. Something to build on for next season. Noe's definitely gimmicky, but would love if he were able to stick in a middle innings role to come in and get a few right-handers. At the very least, tough to root against someone who came from where he did.

It looks like Hank Owens will get three more starts, including this evening, before the end of the year. At 36.0 IP, he needs 14 to graduate. My guess is he gets there, and that they'll want him to, as he has essentially matched his IP from last season (139 vs. 138.1).

Noe Ramirez' changeup looked really good this outing. Something to build on for next season. Agree. He has impressed me with his control and ability to change speeds. Solid season in Pawtucket with a .232 era following up on a .214 era at Portland in 2014. A guy to keep an eye on in ST.

Like most, anytime JBJ starts looking lost I get concerned, but these two things could be related, he has been getting some tough luck when it comes to the strike zone lately, which may have led to him expanding his own zone. All conjecture on my part for sure. But hopefully JBJ keeps his head in the game and doesnt allow himself to slip back into the bad habits. His swing and miss tendacies are tough enough inside the strike zone, let alone if he continues to chase.

Glad to see Aro get into the mix. And he pitched fairly well.
If they need a replacement for Kelly ... maybe Escobar gets the call. ??

JBJ was waving at offspeed stuff in the dirt with two strikes even when he was going supernova. That looks like his next big offseason project.
I'm confident. He'll always have some swing-and-miss in his game, but he has shown the ability to come back better after an offseason.
