Why can't Joe Kelly figure things out like Walker has?

Unloading Sandoval contract? A man can dream right? What would be the point of that? It's not like the Sox have run out of operating capital and are trying to keep the lights on. You want to give up a chance to draft new cost-controlled talent in order to save some money? The Red Sox aren't one of the teams with competitive balance picks that can be traded, so nothing going there.

Why can't Joe Kelly figure things out like Walker has? Because Kelly has never been the same the kind of talent that Walker is.

It does explain the stolen base explosion of the mid to late 90s though. None of that matters, he broke the rules. Pete Rose broke the rules. [deleted] They're dirty. Absolutely agree. Not the point I was making at all.

The MLBPA really needs to do a better job of explaining to it's members why they should not publicly advocate against their own rights.

They've done a piece with Andrus about the Rangers-Blue Jays ALDS last year and this part about the Bautista homer is really cool: Joey Bats is really bad ***.

The players seem close to unanimous here, they want a level playing field. I also understand your point which is just as unproven but it really doesn't matter what we (or Keith Law) think, it's what the players think. They obviously think it helps.

I like what the Pirates are doing. I always feel we would be good trading partners with them. They are at that next level but are always scarred at the deadline to make a bold move. They have a good core and still have some good prospects left. But they always lose in the playoffs because they want there cake and eat it too. I thought Lackey would of been good for them and I thought Bucholtz would be good too. It seems they don't want to part with anything. So we will see this season if they do a KC Royals ,I doubt they do a Toronto.

I don't mean to be rude but I think you're missing my point entirely. I've made my views on PED use well known (although they've been frequently misinterpreted, which is probably my fault), but that's not what I'm talking about in regards to Verlander's public statements. To reiterate: the MLBPA cannot have it's members publicly advocating against their own collectively bargained rights. Well hell must have frozen over. After all these years I agree with Fenway on a PED related issue. As a long time union rep who sat in on several contract negotiations, he's right about the players having a united position, at least in public. I had to deal with a huge defection of union workers who openly went against the union and publicly supported Ronald Reagan back in the cave man days. I won't get into the difference in real workers unions and sports unions, but I think Fenway is right about this part of the debate.

Given Dansby Swanson's recent promotion to AA, its still laughable that the Braves pulled off the Shelby Miller heist. That trade will go down as one of the most lopsided in history.
Ender Incairte (0 fWAR, 0 bWAR), who has played exactly 0 MLB games this season, and Aaron Blair (0.2 fWAR, 0.4 bWAR) alone have been worth more than Shelby Miller has to the Diamondbacks so far (-0.5 fWAR, -0.8 bWAR). ZIPS and Steamer project Miller for around 1.3 fWAR for the remainder of the season.
SSS and all that, but what an atrocity.

I won't get into the difference in real workers unions and sports unions, but I think Fenway is right about this part of the debate. Maybe the amount of money is different, but the principles are the same. We can all agree the game is making money. The only question is where the money should go. For all of the outlays owners and management have to make, at the heart of that money machine are the players themselves. The system they're part of, the facilities, the trainers, coaches, all of it, is there because they are. It seems only fair that half of that wealth - about what they get these days - should be reserved for the hundreds of players - and their minor league cohorts I might add. The only reason it's that way, is because of the path Marvin Miller so brilliantly led them down. Miller was a labor organizer and a great one. He cut his eyeteeth with the steel workers, and he understood tactics as part of a strategic approach to a specific goal. The debt the MLBPA owes to the efforts of he and the union he organized into a coherent force is incalculable. He created an entire class of wealthy individuals by getting the players their due share of those profits. And why not? The money was there all along. Verlander needs a history lesson.

Complete game shutout of Kansas City for Miley, 114 pitches. I think he likes Safeco.

JJ Hardy could be out 4-8 weeks with a fractured foot. Obviously a bad blow for them, but this could really propel the Sox out in front. You don't wanna look at somebody's injury as a good thing, but this definitely makes it a little easier to stay in first.

Someone on MLB or Baseball Tonight mentioned Machado maybe playing SS. Don't know if they have a Marrero or Hernandez who could step in.

He'd be playing there on all but a small handful of teams anyway.
