It's easy to predict that the Astros will forever regret the day they traded away Vincent Velasquez. He had a little rougher time of it with the Nats but he got the win. He stepped right into their starting rotation.

Matz for Swihart, Buchholz & no cash. Why would Blake Swihart not be more than sufficient return for Steven Matz?

He stepped right into their starting rotation. That trade will never make sense. Velazquez could've been a dominant reliever if that's what they were looking for. Trading for a reliever is dumb, but the Astros made it look even dumber.

I'd do it straight up Matz--Swihart....If they needed an arm to fill out their rotation I'd "give" them Buchholz. His contract even for just this year & his player value may be a wash. We also wouldn't have to deal with over population of starters (if there is such a thing).

I wouldn't trade with the Mets because honestly they are looking like the strongest team in the NL and catcher could be their biggest hole. I know it's too early and too irrational, but I wouldn't want to help a pretty direct opponent.
That trade would be awesome though.

I would think Blake Swihart should actually have more trade value than Steven Matz. Shouldn't the Mets be the ones sweetening the deal?

The CWS just swept Toronto at home and are 16-6, I looked quickly at their individual OPSs and they have one guy OPSing at .800 (Melky Cabrera lol), 2 guys at .700 and the rest of them are .600 or less. Geat pitching and hit sequencing can do wonders to your record but I don't think that's sustainable and hopefully it's stats with us.

Ex Sox prospects:
Fedex getting called up by the Cubs (Montero to the 15 day).
Masterson signed a minor league contract with the Pirates (April 14th). He had shoulder surgery during the off season.

How Bautista and Encarnacion have gone this long without testing positive is a mystery. It's pretty simple if you accept that player performance and steroid use have never been correlated in any reliable way. I stand corrected:

It does explain the stolen base explosion of the mid to late 90s though.

Unloading Sandoval contract? A man can dream right? What would be the point of that? It's not like the Sox have run out of operating capital and are trying to keep the lights on. You want to give up a chance to draft new cost-controlled talent in order to save some money?

There has been some bad contracts in the history of MLB. Crawford, Zito, Sabathia, Arod, Ellsbury (for now), ect. At least they gave periods of productivity before tanking. We have not had 1 quality month worth. Some people say look at Lackey. Lackey at least had that inner drive that you could see possibly coming out & he did not want his legacy tainted. Maybe Pablo has it too....I hope.
