That was a nice punch.
I hate this crap, though. Flipping the bat after a huge homerun SEVEN MONTHS AGO doesn't justify being thrown at with a 90+ mph projectile, and being hit with said projectile doesn't justify the attempt to take out a middle infielder's knees with a slide. The slide does, in my opinion, make the shot to the chops understandable. Two wrongs (...or how many are we on now? 17?) don't make a right, but I understand the thought process that leads to rocking the chin of the dude who just jeopardized your career out of misdirected anger. Having said that, Odor has committed at least one dirty slide of his own in the past, so I'm not going to sit here and pretend he's the hero in this tale either. They're all wrong.
This is all ridiculous. This culture of childish over-sensitivity and retribution is a bad look for baseball.

Was watching the LAA & LAD game last night. Daniel Nava (.220 BA & 1 HR) was batting 5TH behind Pujols. I was always a Nava fan with the story & all, but with him in the 5 hole, the Angels are throwing out a bad offensive line-up. Also, he couldn't even reach the cut-off man on several throws from LF to home.

Dick McAuliffe, who died last Friday, remembered by most as the guy who grounded into one double play in 675 plate appearances and thus delivered the 1967 pennant to the Red Sox, was also part of Dick O'Connell's arguably second worst trade during his 12 years as GM.
O'Connell obtained the 34-year-old McAuliffe straight up for a 24-year-old Ben Oglivie after the 1973 season. Sox had a logjam in the OF, with Evans, Beniquez, Harper, Yaz, Reggie Smith (about to be traded to the Cardinals for another OF, Bernie Carbo), and two prospects named Rice and Lynn. Oglivie had shown some pop in 1972 but had an off-year in '73. They might have held onto him longer (the offense-challenged 1974 Red Sox could have used his bat) and let him ripen here before trading him for a little more value than they got in return. McAuliffe was coming off a productive season (.804 OPS) in Detroit, and they were tearing down the Mayo Smith-Billy Martin Tigers and beginning a rebuild. But here, McAuliffe cratered in 1974 (.630 OPS) and by 1975 he was managing the Bristol Red Sox of the Eastern League.
I give O'Connell a lot of credit for the organization he built here, but, like all GMs, he got hornswoggled on a couple of trades. I equally blamed Eddie Kasko, the manager, for O'Connell's worst trade; Kasko wanted Lyle off his ball club. But, again, were the Yankees and Cater the only option? In those days, it was unthinkable that Red Sox would not have a right-handed hitting first baseman--even though Cater lacked power, was slow afoot, and not even close defensively with the man he replaced, George Scott. Lyle in the bullpen could have brought division titles to the Sox in 1972 and 1977, and a World Series title in 1975.

Lyle in the bullpen could have brought division titles to the Sox in 1972 and 1977, and a World Series title in 1975. Almost all of the trades made by the Sox in those days were bad to terrible. They had great amateur scouting, and inept evaluation of their own and other MLB players. We're talking about a team that made terrible off-season moves before 1971 and 1972 and still only failed the win the 1972 pennant because of the strike ... and then produced an incredible run of talent to add to that team ... and still only won one pennant. I started a narrative of all that, and I think at some point I'll work on it further and post it in installments. Younger fans do not know what it was like to be a fan in that era. I did a Win Shares version of this years ago on SoSH, and I think it's time to revisit it with WAR and more attention to offense versus defense.

Wow, we should feed stud muffins to our prospects as well. Turn them all into studs.

Speedies not being a name option for Binghamton is a disgrace and a travesty.

...Timber Jockeys? Maybe I just have a dirty mind, but the first interpretation of 'Timber Jockey' that pops into my head isn't exactly suitable for all ages.

Apparently "Mets" was far too sensible for a minor league baseball team. Will Nike make Timber Jockeys statement shirts? "We do it with wood bats".

Craig Breslow DFA'd by Miami...Noticed another catcher went down Giovanni Soto, joining D'Arnoud. If the Mets Plawecki goes down, I think we could get Matz for Swihart plus reasonable pieces if any.

Nothing newsy but there seems to be tons of speculation that the Angels will look to move Trout.

Speedies not being a name option for Binghamton is a disgrace and a travesty. I had spiedes today.....delicious. But your suggestion is no less pertinent and very original. Kudos to you. If anyone is interested in making....by your meat choice of preference (chicken, pork, lamb ), cube, and marinade in any number of available spiede marinade you can find in a grocery store or internet (try Lupo's marinade). Get the grill going......skewer....grill....and put into your favorite italian bread. Very good eats.

Keep in mind Trout costs 138 million over next 5 years and Bradley will cost about 20 million if he continues any semblance of his play now. But seriously, Trout is not getting traded unless some other teams does some really stupid stuff.

Few things warm my heart more than seeing the Angels being an awful team. Just curious, why the Angels ? Pujols and Trout are two of the classiest players in baseball.

Just to illustrate that, I remember reading a few years ago an article on Halos Heaven where the guy was downright inciting violence against Red Sox fans. I wasn't even misinterpreting something, it was about how Angels fans should beat the crap out of Red Sox fans because we were obnoxious. It was either on the 2008 or 2009 ALDS with the team playing in LA. Or Anaheim. Or wherever the hell those guys play. The scary part is that a good bit of the community there agreed with the writer.

Going to a game in Anaheim isn't like going to a game anyplace else, it's more of a social event where you can sit and talk about anything but baseball.
