Scratch Reddick from your wish lists. Broken left thumb, out indefinitely. Hate when it's one of our own !

Watched the Mets/Nats game last night. Amazing how Matt Harvey was getting knocked around. I know the defense had 1 or 2 lapses in the field, but every pitcher has them in a game. I remember talk of a trade for him. It's amazing how many ACE'S are pitching poorly. Price/Greinke (up until recently), Gray, Harvey, Kluber, Archer, Shelby Miller (though he's a #2). These are top shelf pitchers.

Sorry to bring this back up here, but better than I continue to clog the Kopech thread with it... I'm not OKing what Bautista did, though I'm not even sure the whole fight is that big a deal; it escalated quickly from both sides, and a lot of small actions from a couple different people -- bat flip, mouthing off, drilling, mouthing off, illegal slide, mouthing off, step, shove, boxing stance -- led to the punch. They deserved a suspension, and got it (and we can argue about the exact lengths, but I think they're pretty close). To be honest, what did Joey do besides an illegal slide, runner safe @ 1st, end of discussion. He shouldn't be suspended for that. Did he take a step towards Odor, maybe, but again that happens a lot (mostly on hit by pitches), doesn't warrant a suspension. Never even got a swing in thanks to Beltre. I just felt that he helped escalate the situation multiple times, and a suspension to him de-escalates. It's not like he has no culpability, so I don't feel at all bad for him having to sit out exactly one game. As you said, he stepped to Odor before the shove, and then he stepped at him again after, with his hands up. He also came back into the situation after the punch. Related, can someone clarify (I think this is the second time I asked this, sorry) because of the illegal slide, is the guy at first out too?

From my understanding on an illegal slide into 2nd, It's an automatic double play. Sorry, I mis-typed that above (spirited argument & all).

Yes, the Odor punch play was ruled a double play after the dust settled.

Ouch:
ESPN Stats & Info @espnstatsinfo 3h3 hours ago Giancarlo Stanton - Last 10 plate apps:
Strikeout Strikeout Strikeout Groundout Strikeout Strikeout Strikeout Strikeout Strikeout Strikeout
Also Jason Hayward was removed from the game with an injury after an incredible catch. I haven't seen anything on the injury for several hours now.

I haven't seen anything on the injury for several hours now. That is just a flat-out brutal run. Heyward's been an offensive blank spot this year. I'm kind of surprised the Cubs have scored as much as they have. Curious to see if Almora gets a call.

David Cameron @dcameronfg 8 hours ago
So now Puig’s next popup will give him 15 on the season. Joey Votto has 15 popups… in his career.
---
I note that at least one of those popups was against Koji Uehara.

Right now, with 1/4 of the season behind us, there are 3 American League shortstops on a 9+ WAR pace and none of them are Tolo or Correa.
Machado 2.8 Bogaerts 2.3 Lindor 2.3
Used fWAR.
The age of the dominant shortstop has clearly begun and there are several more in the pipeline.

Offsetting the less than expected offensive production from Heyward is an equally greater than expected offensive production from Dexter Fowler.

Anyone see the brutal strike calls in the 9th inning by Dale Scott against Escobar and Trout last night. Escobar got tossed and I thought Trout was going to snap him in half. Those calls were even worse than the ones against Ortiz a couple of weeks ago as the both off the plate and practically bounced.

There's two sides to the story for the context part (It doesn't excuse the Mrs. though): Read down ArdenZwelling's tweets to the part with Joe West. It contains bad language and is a picture so I couldn't put it here.

So the Yankees have won 5 in a row......although I don't want them to truly contend, I wouldn't mind if they fool themselves into thinking they can and selling off some of their farm pieces rather than acquiring some major pieces for Miller and/or Chapman.

Was thinking that as well. With their minimal offseason though & patience in keeping Judge/Sanchez/Refsnyder, ect, I can't see Cash or Hal flipping them for a (long) shot to make the playoffs. Their front office knows this years Yankee team is a ticking time bomb. I actually see them "selling" Chapman for a piece.

Ray's Kevin Kiermaier broken left hand. This is going to really hurt the Rays momentum here. He's got to be out for the year. 2 breaks. Cast, pin's, screws, atrophy, rehab, ect....Knowing it took Pedey quite a while to get right after his hand issue.

Since the Sox aren't playing today, and their next opponents, the Rockies, played a noon matinee in a nearly-empty PNC Park, I thought I'd have a look at the condensed game. Pretty crazy stuff. The Rockies' starter was hooked in the 3rd inning, but not before plunking a batter right on the helmet - glad we dodged that one. With the bases loaded, the Rockies tried to get a 3-2-3 double play, but the throw sailed just over the catcher's glove, scoring 2 runs. Later, on another play at the plate, the runner slid so hard that dirt was propelled into the eye of the home plate umpire, who had to leave the game. Melancon with the not-so-common 2-out save (4 run lead, 2 men on base).
