Girardi: McCann is now officially the back-up catcher. Still owed 50+ mil.

Dansby Swanson went 2 for 4 in his major league debut last night. Between him, Benintendi, Bregman, and Rodgers, the 2015 draft was way studlier than it looked three months before it.

Like… I bet an average fan knows more about the CBA than the D-backs FO

Nothing in the tank for Tillman this evening. He left in the third, after almost 70 pitches, with none out and the bases loaded. He'd just walked in a run, making it 5-0 Astros.

So we know where Cafardo got that Moncada could not sign with the Red Sox.

Yeah, I think Kopech is definitely MLB ready.

ESPN pushing Nolan Arenado for NL MVP. Hysterical how inept that is.

ESPN pushing Nolan Arenado for NL MVP. Hysterical how inept that is. It's Bryant, but I might have Arenado #2. His offense is helped by the fact he plays in Colorado, but he might be baseball's best defensive player. And, Coors Field or not, he's going to end up around 40 home runs. He's started walking too, which I'm sure is a function of the way pitchers are attacking him, but it's still good on him to execute.

I'd have Murphy and Seager ahead of him for sure. He's barely top 10 in fWAR for the NL anymore, and they've both been fantastic for playoff teams.

He's been in a huge skid. ? 4 for 5 with two homers yesterday. .290/.379/.565 in August. I probably have Seager ahead of him too, though. But it's a pretty tight group after Bryant for #2. Bumgarner, Rizzo, Yelich. I'll give you Murphy too even though the defense stinks. But if I needed to rank them today I think I'd put Arenado third.

If he wasn't playing in Coors nobody would be suggesting this, IMO. He's a very good player, but I don't really see him as a top 5 MVP type (yet). I guess it's all relative to what you value, though. For example, the 40 HR plateau means nothing to me, but I know for some writers it would.

Saw Toronto sent Aaron Sanchez to Dunedin (FSL) to save his innings. What is going to do down there, not pitch? Strange move IMO. All they would have to do is give him a DL stint.

The High Desert and Bakersfield California League teams will move to the Carolina League after this season (in new homes, obviously - that would be some rough bus travel). From everything I've heard and from the scores teams seem to put up there, anything would be an upgrade from High Desert.

Not even that bad compared to the Zach Britton Cy Young talk. That's completely nonsensical, but to be perfectly fair, it's been a down year for AL pitchers hasn't it? Someone like Kluber or Hamels is winning with some underwhelming numbers, so people are going to try and champion some other weird choice. Not that they should, but I can kind of understand the sentiment. On the NL, you have a player having an obviously better season playing pretty much the same position for a much better team in the same year as Arenado. I think that's even worse. You could make the same point about Andrew Miller having a better season than Zach Britton, which makes me wonder how long is it going to take for the same people to talk about him.

We aren't forced to have a pitcher in the MVP talks and especially not a relief pitcher.

We aren't forced to have a pitcher in the MVP talks and especially not a relief pitcher. Yeah, but wasn't he talking about a relief pitcher for Cy Young? I mean, not that I agree with it or think that it should happen any year, just that I understand why it's even in the conversation.

We certainly don't have to find more relief pitchers if Zach Britton shouldn't win it.

Oh yeah, I absolutely agree there. I was just commenting on the apparent lack of options being the cause for Britton to be mentioned. It's slightly less insulting than K-Rod a few years back, but not by much.

Buys them some extra service time? I don't understand this move. And service time as a factor just wouldn't make sense. He's clearly one of the Jays best pitchers, so sending him to the minors is strange. Control his innings? Sure. That totally makes sense. Demote him after performing excellently this season, just to "control innings?" No.
