MLB Network is running the game and I just watched Travis' blast. I've decided he's not Cecchini.

Starting to buy into Sam Travis a bit more. I've never been down on him or anything, but just in wait and see mode because the bar is so high for his defensive profile ... but his swing is pretty sweet. MLB Network is running the game and I just watched Travis' blast. I've decided he's not Cecchini. I decided he wasn't Aaron Bates. Immediately impressive. Who said sample sizes of one are worthless?

Read somewhere where he mentioned that he can hit home runs, but he likes the idea of lining pitches into the gaps. It didn't sound cocky, just very matter of fact. We might have to take him at his word, here. That one left quickly and went far, and he looked as if that's exactly what he was planning on. As you say, just one at bat, but he does seem to know what he's doing with that thing in his hand.

Was listening to the game on the Toronto station and the announcers agreed that it might have been the longest home run they had seen this spring......off the batters eye.

Aaron Bates is a good one, and it brought home to me how comparatively young Travis is. I was thinking of him in the Bates line as a college hitter, but Travis was quite young for AA last year. I mean, not "Xander Bogaerts OPSing 950 at 19" young, but at 21, that's still solidly prospect age in AA. Aaron Bates was still in college at 21. I don't think Sam Travis has multiple All-Star games in his future, but he's got a better shot at starting on a first-division team than I was really thinking. [aside: Aaron Bates really wasn't that good in the minor leagues. Most of his success could be heavily discounted to account for league/park (Lancaster magic!) or age (22 in Lowell)]

The sound off Travis' bat shattered my car's windshield.

Pablo's back and he's back big. Nice double off the top of the wall, would have been over the monster.

I know the Panda hate train is moving at full speed, but it's shameful how exhausted he looked as he *slowly* pulled into 2nd. Ugh.

Red Sox continuing their trademark trend of being unable to develop any starting pitching.

All caveats apply, but I can't remember a team looking worse in the field than the Red Sox this spring. Hopefully, it's meaningless

Has anyone else noticed the poetry that is Travis Shaw wearing #47 and Sam Travis wearing #74?

LOL, didn't notice but it's funny and I'm guessing intentional. Definitely a travisty of fairness.
Missed most of the game but the highlight show all three HRs were hammered and cleared everything. Hanley, Young & Shaw. (Young's was of course off a lefty.

I keep worrying Shaw is going to be a mirage, but I can't argue with the freaking numbers or how balanced he looks at the plate at the moment.

How do you keep him off the everyday line-up at this point (assuming he keeps this up throughout spring training)? A "travisty" that'd be indeed.

Red Sox continuing their trademark trend of being unable to develop any starting pitching. That's really great commentary based on a preseason game.

That's really great commentary based on a preseason game. I thought it was funny. Edit: Just saw his Owens thread post, I think he's actually serious. No, it was a joke at first, but he's really struggled with command throughout his career. It's not like he's David Price throwing 7 walks in 7 innings in spring. I realize how pointless ST numbers are when Dave Mccarthy lead the team in HR one year (I think that's right?) And that he's working on his second and third offerings, but the larger concern is, can he command his fastball and in the very, very, very limited SSS, is there any alarm that his command issues will continue to follow him?

Michael Silverman @mikesilvermanbb 4m4 minutes ago
More Moncada vs Rays: Betts RF, Holt SS, Murphy LF, Shaw 3B, Criag DH, Bradley Jr. CF, Swihart C, Travis 1B, Moncada 2B, Porcello starts
And more Shaw at 3B...
Glad you guys changed the time back. 1AM game times are bad but 2AM times are killers on old farts.
