Thanks Chris. This TV schedule clears up a lot of coverage questions.

Xander and Hanley both with screaming line drive doubles off the Monster 2.0.
EDIT: Rusney golfed one for a wallball double too. No grounder there.

It's a bit sad but him pulling a ball and not killing 7 gophers in the infield is big news. Hopefully his "shortened swing approach" or whatever is going to help. For anyone watching close enough, does his swing look any different this spring than in the past?

Carson Smith looked pretty sharp there. I was just coming in to say that. I probably saw him last year but don't remember so. He looked impressive.

Hanley also hasn't elicited any negative comments about his defense today. We can pencil him in the for ASG.

Watching Murphy AB is like watching someone ODing on coffee. zzzztt zzzztt zzzzttt.
He's also not having a very good day in the field. Two hits he should have caught.

I saw one swing from the side that looked pretty long to me...but hey two 'air balls' and a hard grounder, not a slow topper, to third.

Well the elements played a large part. One ball he lost in the sun and another the wind impacted.....He is a nice pick-up...good average, a little pop, a lefty, not a disaster in the field...no demand of play me or trade me....

Hanley looked good at the plate though and hustled a double on a hard hit wall ball. He looks in better shape than last year too when he was apparently auditioning for Mr. Universe. Panda.......will... not... be... our... third baseman... by August....

Shaw/Holt/Marrero until Moncada. Jesus. I am as big of a non-believer in Clay Buchholz as anyone here, and even I wouldn't say his early spring training performance is predictive of anything. But continue to feed your self-driven narrative that Sandoval doesn't go out early to practice like Hanley (Remy says he's out there with Hanley all the time), doesn't care about anyone but himself, is lazy, and is a hopelessly useless player (he made two good defensive plays yesterday in case you missed it).

I am referring to the fact that he's slow in the field (he fell on the stolen base in case you missed that) and the two nice plays would typically be routine (there was also a single to the hole that most third basemen get to easily) and in particular slow at the plate (his bat is constantly behind). I'm sorry but I just don't see any reason for optimism and it has nothing to do with working or not working. Edit: His arm strength and accuracy are still there. Also, I'm a Clay backer but he wasn't impressive yesterday in terms of performance, he got away with several meatballs. Nothing though in what I saw gives me any cause for concern. He also only threw fastballs and changeups.

Agree, I thought it was a great pickup. The one lost in the sun was Young's to take anyways. The one from the wind (it hit the base of the wall) was a bit questionable but it's spring. Castillo lost one in right field that the announcers also blamed on the sun. 90 degree different view angle.

The double to left was a bit long but not terrible. The single to right field he shortened the stroke and went with an outside pitch. Same scenario as Hanley's first two ABs. I missed the double play grounder (the 30 second mound visit clock doesn't allow enough time to refill a coffee cup, I'll have to work on that, that's what spring is really for).

He also only threw fastballs and changeups. Yup. It appeared that on the play at third Panda could not halt his body's momentum, went past the bag and then lost his balance trying to get back. He did make a dive (no chance) on a ball in the hole that reminded me of a dry land belly flop...Ooooff. To the naked eye, Panda's physique is remarkably similar to what he finished at last year. IMO the reported 23 to 17% body fat transformation is a ruse to deflect attention from his weight. We can see what he looks like in comparison to last year and make some judgement but aren't able to as easily challenge the body-fat statement...although it strains credulity. If indeed he replaced fat with muscle, how would he have lost 20-22 lbs and still look the same...being that muscle is more dense? I was interested in the comment by Farrell that Panda right-handed was looking much better than last year. My thoughts were 'in what way" and 'what factored in this change'? If I were drawing a caricature of Panda, it would be that of a bowling ball with arms and legs sticking out. Clay will be fine as long as he is healthy.

The wind was blowing hard to the right & it came off a right handed bat that made it slice. It was dead into to corner & was a LONG run. He probably makes that play during the regular season. I've noticed watching several ST games that players are not crashing into walls & are pulling up a few steps from reaching a wall.
