Martin could be a real weapon later this year, or more likely next. Barnes, Martin & Light provide some hope for pen reinforcements in-hose.

Machado is unbelievable; would probably be the best SS in baseball, but he settles for the best 3B If we can't have Harper, can we have him instead?

Johnson is the first Sox pitcher to go three. Lots of wind today. This also might have been the first time ever that the two starting catchers were TJ survivors. Interestingly, Butler who replaced Vazquez also had TJ. Owens went three yesterday.

Hope, sure, but some seriously major question marks in that group, way more than you would want from elite RP prospects. Don't even think you can put Martin in that same universe.

Agreed. Not sure any of them are elite - didn't mean to suggest they were. We don't need elite bp arms right now with Kimbrell & Smith. This year and next we just need some potential low cost 6-7 inning reinforcements. One of these guys should (hopefully) be able to step up.

Mendez' slider is looking good. Short sharp break and he can throw it for strikes too. Fastball velocity seems to have backed up a bit though.

Jason Mastrodonato @jmastrodonato 21 sec. Red Sox casually insert a new 2B... Castillo LF, Swihart DH, Sandoval 3B, Shaw 1B, Hanigan C, Boesch RF, Marrero SS, LaMarre CF, Moncada 2B
Oh yes, oh yes!

Incredible. Here they have an opportunity and Farrell bats him 9th. He should be hitting cleanup. Don't these people know anything

None of them will be a Tazawa and that is the level of talent we need. The bullpen is where it is at these days. Watch the Yankees this year....They will be scary good in the pen. I hope that Koji prevails one more year...but next year I would love to see two more very good BP arms...including a stud lefty (oh yeah, we once had one of those guys).

The good news is there's a ton of potential relief prospects to watch this year. Light, Jerez, Ysla, Ben Taylor, Lakins, and Martin all could become relievers at some point (even though some are starters today). Chances are that at least one of those guys can be a good relief pitcher.

I sense the RS are banking on 2 or 3 of the 10 guys in the mix for 2017-2018 to step up....This year we should be OK on the big club. We had to have Kimbrell/Smith because we didn't have anyone step up last year. Light has looked ok, reminds me a bit of Daniel Bard (when he was in the BP). Unfortunately most of these guys look like average 6-7 inning guys.

Shaw's HR opposite field, lots of natural power there.
'Yvon' Moncada with a very nice play right off the bat on a bunt.

Damn, did not expect that defense from Moncada. Very tricky play, great transfer.

Small detail but Moncada is wearing his normal 22. That's unusual.

Pretty interesting stuff from Pirates broadcasters. Amazing that every single one of their players plays "with his heart on his sleeve" and "with an edge." Credit to the scouting department?
