Pretty interesting stuff from Pirates broadcasters. Amazing that every single one of their players plays "with his heart on his sleeve" and "with an edge." Credit to the scouting department? Is this a joke? I wish the Sox were more into drafting guys with sleeve hearts. I think it could be the next market inefficiency.

So how long before Shaw is the starting 3rd baseman and Holt is late inning defensive move at 1st?

Melancon with a welcome to the majors change up to strike out Moncada.

Well if that wasn't absolutely perfect. Panda, off balance, goes out to get an outside pitch and pulls it, dribbling it towards first. Shaw bats after, pitch on the outside, Shaw, balanced, punches it confidently into the opposite field.

This time, not being satisfied with only a single, Swihart followed it with a stolen base. Sandoval's dribbler did advance him to third.

Sandoval with a nice play at third. Not great but nice.

LOL, Sandoval's first hit, sortof. Yeah it was clearly a foul ball, but by about an inch. Put a good swing on it at least. Moncada's BB was a good AB. Fell behind but fought off a solid pitch and ended up drawing a walk.

Didn't get to watch but reading on here and Twitter it's nice to see that Moncada had a good game defensively. At least he made a few good stops.

Sandoval with a nice play at third. Not great but nice. He only made that play look nice because he was at the infield grass. If he is deeper (where he should be) it is a very routine play.

Actually, the fact that he had to go somewhat horizontal then right himself to throw and did so reasonably quickly was something I wasn't 100% confident that he could still do.

I have to say, regardless of how the team does this season, they should be extremely entertaining to watch. This young core can be very special, particularly with the top 4 prospects waiting in the wings. It was very fun to watch Shaw, Swihart, and Moncada all flash some impressive tools. Not to mention the Mookie Betts show and it being Ortiz's final season.
Also, once Vazquez gets fully healthy, its going to be an absolute treat having he and Swihart on the same team.

Yeah, you never know how it'll play out on the field, but this is a strikingly talented and surprisingly deep team.

Price makes his debut against Minnesota. According to comments by Vazquez after the sim game, he's already spotting his repertoire.

He's commenting on the announcer's homerism. Being fair, they have a guest announcer that's a hockey announcer. Swihart picking up where he left off. Two doubles today. Watched the Oriole game the other day & Gary Thorne was very good at giving some background info on the Sox players, even talking them up a bit. I know they are in the AL east & he would have more contact with them. The Pitt announcers I felt were horrible. Every called 3rd strike on the Pirates, they ripped the umps. Even Pablo's double, there was no replay showing the landing spot down the line. The ump was right on it. Of course Shaw's HR was "wind blown".

In addition to not paying any attention to the game...a gab fest honoring the hockey announcer.... everything the Sox got was lucky, or wind blown, or an umpiring error ("spring training for everyone")...As awful as the Rays announcers are on this score, these guys were worse...

I thought they were terrible as well.
Pete Abraham @peteabe 4m4 minutes ago #RedSox left radar guns off at JetBlue Park for the first 4 games. Didn’t want pitchers getting caught up in velocity. They’re on today.
It's a shame we won't get to see them.

And on a different and more serious note, Panda looks atrocious against anything off speed today. Well, you know how sometimes pitchers only throw heat in their first ST outing? I think Panda decided to only swing like they were only throwing fastballs yesterday. I mean, if it works for the pitchers...
