Revisiting the third base decision in the 2014-15 offseason:
Current MLB leaders in extra-base hits: T1. Josh Doaldson 18 T1. Jose Altuve 18 T3. Chris Carter 17 T3. Manny Machado 17 T3. Trevor Story 17 ~~~~ T847. Pablo Sandoval 0 T847. Chase Headley 0 T847. Will Middlebrooks 0 T847. James Dunne 0
Not saying that signing me would've been the right decision, I'm just saying that it's not entirely clear that it would've been the wrong one.

If only we had a closer that could pitch more than an inning Run allowed tonight notwithstanding - would you honestly prefer to see Kimbrel than Uehara in this situation? I think Kimbrel is going to be fine, but it's not clear that he's substantively better.

If only we had a closer that could pitch more than an inning Or if we had a new multi inning reliever who is having a career year if we get free baseball.

Right. These games are competitions....and letting your best beat their best is meaningful. Exactly, whatever you do just don't play shook. Lose with your ace if that's what it takes.

Remember the "John Farrell ruined Xander Bogaerts" rants from the gameday threads a couple weeks back? Good times, good times.

Miller is nasty. The Red Sox gave him a life line by making him a relief ace.

That swing by Xander was Manny Ramirez levels of awesomeness. No way that ball should be hit, let alone hit hard and deep.

I hate the Yankees that much more for pilfering our successful reclamation projects.

Do you think that facing the bottom of the order of one of the worst-hitting teams in the league when you have an excellent set-up man available and rested would be a time you'd turn to them for a stint of more than three outs? Like yeah, facing Mike Trout or Miguel Cabrera in the 8th inning of a one-run game, I want my best pitcher in there regardless of role. But the 2016 iterations of Chase Headley or Carlos Beltran? The setup man needs to take care of that stuff.

There is a common saying among MLB players that the most valuable pitching statistic is Wins. As long as Kimbrel holds the lead, Price is in line for his fourth win. Therefore, from a perspective, Price has had a very good year so far, despite a 6.14 ERA.

A censure is in order.

Kimbrel's arm slot looked cleaner and was more accurate, and 15-10 equates to 97 wins. Let's get there!

Vazquez's celebrations are fantastic. Loved seeing he and Hanigan celebrating the win.

Really worried about price. His pitches are very hittable. They lack life and movement.
The home grown hitters continue to shine!

Ballgame. I can't remember a more enjoyable 3 game regular season series in a loing time. Great job by our guys. This team is hard not to like. The young talent - Betts, Bogaerts, Bradley, Shaw, Vazquez, Swihart, Rodriguez, Holt... It's crazy and only getting better. Ton of energy in the clubhouse because of it too.

The baserunning of Betts and Bogaerts is off the charts. That was no sure 1st and 3rd against the OF with the strongest arm in the majors, and Xander takes off once a ball hits the dirt. I'm not sure whom is better, although Betts is substantially faster Actually, Betts led the majors in fBsR last year (8.3) At the beginning of today's play, the Red Sox were leading the AL in both stolen bases and stolen base percentage. These definitely aren't your father's Red Sox.
