Adding to the savor-fest, a cousin of mine in NYC says that one of the drumbeats is the Yankees MUST trade Ellsbury and immediately cut their losses.
Waiting for the Ells-for-Panda suggestion from someone here. Bueller? Bueller?

Well, I certainly remember people here saying that we couldn't let Ellsbury get away because without a proven leadoff hitter you basically can't score any runs ever, or something like that.

I remember I was one of the ones who compared letting him go to NYY akin to letting Damon go in 2005 so I will claim a level of responsibility for that. I always thought he'd fit right in at LF, as well.

Yankee fans think they can just trade away the player to get rid of his contract....It is an interesting thought, Jake is owed $110 mil for 5 years....Panda is owed what $75 mil for 4 years......Their current 3B is terrible. The thing is, Jake can actually "play" baseball.

It looks like there's something fishy with PitchFX for him. It has his two seamer averaging a higher velocity than his four seamer. I don't think these numbers are stabilized yet because of the two games he pitched in with horrible conditions. I know I've seen him hit 94 many times.

Also, I think Jake would do better in this lineup than in the atrocious lineup the Yanks are trotting out there.

Was watching the Michael Kay/Joe Girardi show on YES the last few days just to get their point of views. Callers want Girardi & Cashman canned. Girardi says all they can do is hope the players they have in house improve as their contracts are mostly immovable. Michael Kay said they have are now paying for the back end of all those huge contracts they signed a few years ago.

To say nothing of the fact that he'll block Benintendi who will be knocking on the door soon. Ells is gone. Thanks for the memories.

I don't even care about the money as much as the years. Ellsbury is signed until 2020, and Steamer is giving him .262/.321/.394 with 23 steals for the rest of THIS season. His stolen base totals are trending the way they do for most players as they hit their 30s, which is to say they're rapidly vanishing. Chances are his stolen bases are negligible within a couple years. The only way he has any kind of second act to his career is if he can become more of a power hitter, like Damon or Beltran did, but the power has been going backwards for him as well. I just don't see anything that suggest he's going to be much over replacement level for the last five years of this deal.

I'd rather have Jacoby Ellsbury as a 4th OF'er/Pinch hitter/Pitch runner at his contract than Pablo at his contract.

Where does Benintendi go ultimately? I see the 2017 projected roster projects the Sox to acquire a left fielder. Wouldn't it make more sense to add a pitcher with moncada, devers and benintendi in the pipeline and a real lack of pitching depth in the minors, not to mention ramirez' contract running two more years after this year?

I'd rather have Jacoby Ellsbury as a 4th OF'er/Pinch hitter/Pitch runner at his contract than Pablo at his contract. Right now at least Sandoval isn't taking up a roster spot. I'd rather have Marco Hernandez or Heath Hembree active than either of them.

I go to a lot of games and they're easily the worst fanbase that travels to Fenway. Maybe that travels to Fenway, I think the Philly fans are the worst in every sport. That is a factor I account for in my calculations : ) Philly fans don't really travel too much.
