Great win! I have no idea why hitters swing at Kimbrel's pitchs! Guy can't find the strike zone!

Extremely ugly win. But when you're on the kind of roll that wins games where O'Sullivan starts and Papi sits, it's a pretty great sign.

Regardless of it being an ugly game or not, it's better to win ugly games than lose them. File this win away.

Wonder what roster moves are made after this game. Sully and maybe Hembree?

Can't freaking wait til Rutledge's hot streak is over so we can get rid of the scrub off the team. Would be great if they could get a lottery ticket prospect for him from some sucker GM.

About 5 pages late here, but... Where the hell did Aledmys Diaz come from? I just looked up SS in MLB and Xander isn't anywhere close to hitting as well as he is. ... Cuba. Also, check out that unibrow (and .918 Fld%). Ugly game, good win. Weird day for Rutledge. That's a throw he needs to make but I do like him as a bench guy. Really bad spot to make that mistake, but 3 hits (raising his avg to .407) and hustling around the bases to score the winning run on that missed fly ball off the bat of Hanigan sure help him not be the goat of this one.

Taz is amazing. ADD: And I don't want him to leave via FAcy Sign that man to a 3-yr deal today!

Before the series started I pegged the over/under for the Sox scoring at 26.5.
They scored 33 -- albeit one game went 11 innings.
Guess I'm going to have to stop being so pessimistic.

Wonder what roster moves are made after this game. Sully and maybe Hembree? I think it is pretty clear that we need one, if not two, starters (hopefully E-Rod can become one) and another flamethrower in the pen. Love Smith but at 91-92 max he is not ideal. Ifs and buts and candied nuts but Miller was the guy we should have kept at all costs...poor decision....'can't pay much for a reliever' was the mantra. Entering today Miller had a 26-1 SO to BB ratio and a .192 BA against with 26Ks in 14.6 innings. Spilled milk. Owens and Johnson I fear are toast and even Espinosa is far away and now struggling. A trade or two awaits with FA thereafter. How deep are our pockets? For all the current euphoria, I am looking a year down the road.

And how is Margot doing these days? Pretty good, he has a cool .766 OPS. Nothing earth shattering considering he plays in high altitude, but not bad. He's the same prospect he was when he got traded. Edit: That's just the box, I have no idea what scouts feel about him these days. Sometimes you have to be content with just getting the box.

It'll depend on how the division shapes up.If we seem to be in good shape for the division as of July 31, then the only way a starter is an upgrade for the PS is if he's better than one of the top four. That means he'd probably have to be someone pretty good if we assume that Price, Ed-Rod, Porcello and Wright are pitching like they're capable of. I also expect that by July 31, we'll be looking forward to Clay coming off the disabled list and hoping that he can give us something.

Edit: That's just the box, I have no idea what scouts feel about him these days. Good point, Don. To get a good comparison, I looked at Margot's AAA teammate Hunter Renfroe (BA ranked at 86) who has an OPS of .850 with an ISO of .237. And there are lots of players on other teams in that league slashing very high OPS/ISO. Margot's ISO is .138/2HR for 140 PAs. Unless Margot turns it around, would this be enough for 50/50+ power that made him look like a top 25 prospect? As of these first 140 PAs (which is a "stabilizing" sample for ISO), Margot might project to be a 40/45 bench player, which is Fangraph-projected at 1 WAR or so per season. But a sizeable percentage of players in this lower category just bust, and give you 0 WAR lifetime. Margot and Renfroe (1st round pick in 2013) have about the same experience in MiLB (although Margot is 3 years younger).

I don't disagree. I think he'll have to throw more strikes in the long run and it has been unnerving watching him pitch...for the most part....just pointing out that the extra velocity has an effect on the best group of hitters the planet has to offer.

X now at .338 / .390 / .503.
Even before today, this month had been his second-best in MLB for HR/PA (after September 2014), and his second best month since July 2013 in Pawtucket. As of today, it's just shy of his best month since June of 2012 in Salem.

Well, at least he's not Lee Smith. In his defense, he's whiffing 15/9 and his WHIP is about 0.8. As long as he gets 'em out, I'm good.
