I thought the steal attempt was fine. If reasonable people can disagree about a decision, it's probably not worth castigating the manager for. Give me a break my friend. If you thought the steal attempt was warranted with the best clutch hitter in the game as the plate your nuts. Ortiz HR backs up my statement. heh heh...he said "clutch hitter"...

OMG - now you have the village idiots crediting Xander's CS for Ortiz's HR The term "insufferable" comes to mind. Oh, and "straw man" nobody is crediting X's CS for anything. You can't assume that Papi would have hit one there though.

I don't see why Wright shouldn't get his 3rd CG today.

OMG - now you have the village idiots crediting Xander's CS for Ortiz's HR The worst part is, the point isn't that David Ortiz would have hit a 2 run HR if Xander didn't run into an out stupidly. It is that it's absolutely dumb to risk running into outs on the base paths with the guy who is far and away your best hitter at the plate. Just stupid. what don't you get that papi had two strikes on him and wasn't seeing the ball well off him. If he's safe papi had a runner in scoring position. If not he's out and papi gets a new count to work with. Look what he did with that new count. Smart base running move.

You can't assume that Papi would have hit one there though. That's the point though. You live and die with Papi's results at the plate. Not Xander's results on the base paths. Anyone else at the plate, there probably isn't a huge conversation. Some people might be for trying to get into scoring position, some people might not want to risk it. But with Ortiz up, stealing should have never been a consideration.

As if you can tell that. Talk about making things up to make your argument. It was a stupid baserunning move period.

But I wouldn't call it smart. Just that is was debatable. But not stupid like some people are claiming.

I wonder what the conversation would look like if Xander was safe and then Papi hit a single to score him? This is a results-based argument.
As much as it looks like Papi hits a HR every time he's up, he's much more likely to hit a single.

As much as it looks like Papi hits a HR every time he's up, he's much more likely to hit a single. Well, there would almost certainly been no one describing it as stupid and about 100 posts of Xander encomiums.

I think we can stop bemoaning the lack of a man on base for the papi HR, especially when we have noted HR hitter Marco
