Givens has unforgiveable numbers against lefties. He's basically a one-hitter pitcher at this point.

I think we can stop bemoaning the lack of a man on base for the papi HR, especially when we have noted HR hitter Marco edit: thanks felix, valuable trade chip Seriously, some pople need to chill. It was one CS among many others to come. But overall the Sox have been excellent in the bases.

I wonder what the conversation would look like if Xander was safe and then Papi hit a single to score him? This is a results-based argument. As much as it looks like Papi hits a HR every time he's up, he's much more likely to hit a single. Well, there would almost certainly been no one describing it as stupid and about 100 posts of Xander encomiums. I didn't agree with the steal attempt either, but what is with your disdain for Xander.

The term "insufferable" comes to mind. Oh, and "straw man" nobody is crediting X's CS for anything. You can't assume that Papi would have hit one there though. That's the point though. You live and die with Papi's results at the plate. Not Xander's results on the base paths. Anyone else at the plate, there probably isn't a huge conversation. Some people might be for trying to get into scoring position, some people might not want to risk it. But with Ortiz up, stealing should have never been a consideration. That's the point though? point of what? He said that people were crediting Xander's CS for Papi's HR, which they weren't. And he assumed that if X had stayed at first, Ortiz would have hit one out there, which you can't.

This team is fun.
Missed Papi's, but I was about a row away from battling it out for Marco's HR.

Marco has been a heck of a find huh. He has maybe even made Holt expendable! I like his game.

/looks up the price of a ticket on the Steven Wright bandwagon I mean if you just change your avatar to a Steven Wright avatar right now we can pretend your skepticism never happened.

I thought the steal attempt was fine. If reasonable people can disagree about a decision, it's probably not worth castigating the manager for. Assuming too much here. When Farrell is wrong, he's wrong. And when he's right, he's still wrong. Tha's some people's idea of reasonableness. The steal attempt was not only Ok, it was actually a good decision. And it was a good decision because Ortiz was up. Get the man to second and you have a pretty decent chance of getting an important insurance run on the board. Keith Foulke's comment about Johnny from Burger King comes to mind here.

Definitely should throw Wright out there at least to start the 9th. Save the pen in case Eddy isn't 100% tomorrow.

During David Ortiz's 20 year career how many stolen bases have been attempted with him at the plate? Dozens? Hundreds? Remember he has hit behind Johnny Damon, Jacoby Ellsybury, Pedroia, to name a few guys who have stolen a few bases. Were all those steals terrible decisions?

Wright is absolutely dealing. It's hard to overstate how valuable he's been. I hope the bullpen buys him dinner if he gets through 9, and that he does the same for Hanigan - and comps his drinks also.

in several play with a head first slide/dive, it appears that the player dove too soon, with Napoli's being the funniest. I think players need more work on timing the head first slide. I am hoping Marco gets a good number of ABs, if he looks good, then perhaps Holt would be a trade chip. But I not sure that we should trade Holt this year.

So Xander got a CS, move on from it. I don't know why there's so much hate for Xander (It reminds me of that dude on here that's always bashing JBJ and Wright). These are our Red Sox and whether you like it or not, Xander is our best player and our future.

Agreed, I think Koji and Kimbrel can cover those Hanigan drinks though with what they are getting paid.

Just for the record, 38/58 of Ortiz's hits have been for extra bases in 2016.

JBJ doesn't care about BABIP regression: He'll take his walks, he'll cut his Ks and he'll hit his dingers.

Sox need to keep running in strategic situations, so as the season progresses, we continue to give opposing pitchers and the opposing defense something else to think about.

We're in a stretch of 13 games in 13 days, so a CG by Wright would be nice.
