Oh, come on, everyone. Matt Barnes has a FIP of 4.18 and a WHIP of 1.37. He just as easily could have given up the grand salami as the guy who's been the best P on the staff. And if that had happened, then Farrell would be an idiot for bringing in mediocre Matt Barnes to replace his ace, right? Under me, he would have had a fresh inning in the 6th. I don't think JF even had anyone warming prior to that inning even though it was raining. He should of at least had Barnes warming up sooner to either start a fresh 6th or bring Barnes in after Wright hit the batter. Throwing mostly 85 mph fastballs wasn't going to work.

Yes, let's call this game before Farrell can blow it.

Under me, he would have had a fresh inning in the 6th because knuckleballl pitchers can't pitch in the rain. Fair enough, but why? His pitch count wasn't out of hand after five innings. He ended with 93. I'll listen to your point, but the reflexive "Farrell sucks" from a few posters every time something sucky happens is just old and silly.

Because knuckleball pitchers cannot pitch in the rain.

Because knuckleball pitchers cannot pitch in the rain. But don't you think Wright had a conversation with Willis and Farrell about that before he went out for the sixth? I'm not a serial Farrell defender - in fact, I'm not crazy about him as a game manager - but I think you know what I mean about the ridiculous tendency of some to blame him for every situation in which a player fails.

He hits one guy throws a wild pitch loads the bags all because of loss of command and the only manager on the planet that can't figure out why is John Farrell ...sideways rain ball rolling over its all on John and the look on Wrights face said it all .

Well, the fact is he wasn't very good all night. He gave up seven hits and two walks through the first five innings for a ghastly WHIP of 1.8. As far as the WP goes, they happen all the time to knucklers, rain or no rain. It's not off the wall nuts (unlike a lot of the tired, entirely predictable and intellectually lazy "Fire Farrell now!" hot takes on here) to think that JF should have removed him after five. But I have to think they talked before the sixth and that Wright told him he could handle the precip.
Oh well, let's just hope the monsoon continues and we get out of here with a rain-shortened 5-4 win.
Don't screw up, Farrell. Make sure it keeps raining!

Seriously as good as they Killer B's are at base running, they can be just as bad. With bogaerts im just talking about the head first slides to first base. John Farrell does not Deserve to manage this team.

Wright has discussed this before. In fact he had rain-like issues with his control vs. Texas because of the volume of sweat he was producing made it impossible to grip the ball. He was very explicit about this. He also had similar issues vs. Houston in the rai . "Wright and rain don't mix. He said this after giving up five runs on a career-high nine hits vs. Houston in May."

Wouldn't it be a 5-0 win if Sox don't come back to bat? I forgot how they amended this rule.

My goodness Vazquez is ineffective. It might not be too bad of an idea to send him down when Hanigan comes back. You have to hope Hanigan or Sandman can catch Wright. Hanigan gets a work out every game catching Wright.

Mookie has to attempt to steal with Pedroia up to avoid the inning-ending DP.
