Those all-star unis are.... uh... well at least they're not camo. Major League Baseball is run by nitwits.

Tired of Eck saying Price is a different pitcher now than in his last couple of years in Tampa.
2013 with the Rays: 54% fastball, 17.8% cutter, 11.3% curve, 16.8% changeup 2016: 49% fastball, 20% cutter, 7.5% curve, 23.4% changeup.
Meanwhile, Eck claims he used to be just fastball changeup. He's traded some fastballs for changeups and curves for cutters, but it's the same mix he's been using since 2012. And he's never been just fastball changeup, the changeup use has increased in recent years. These things are easy to look up.

I hear ya ,but in Ecks defense Price seems stiff with his delivery in my opinion ...Price may be hiding injury .

I hear ya ,but in Ecks defense Price seems stiff with his delivery in my opinion ...Price may be hiding injury . Even if that's true, it's not at all what Eck is saying. He just loves to talk about how he's gone away from fastball changeup where he had success early on to completely changing his pitch mix this season. I'd have no problem if he was talking about mechanical differences if he were able to back it up, but he's just claiming things that aren't remotely true. It's just one of my pet peeves (in baseball and in life) when people repeat the same things over and over again that are easy to look up as if they're true when they're false.

In fairness it did not appear Lester worked very hard to try and stay in Boston and when he left he simply went to the team that offered him the most money. There were also reports he wasn't wild about going to the Giants due to the taxes there which gives you the idea of the mindset he had, since their offer was very high too. I am sure familiarity with the executive team has to be one of the reason in his and Lackey signing there. Possibly, although its a simple fact he chose the most guaranteed money over his hometown team and the defending World Series champion Giants too.

I think he meant the 12 hits/6IP last time out. There's the answer. 2 ER in 6 innings 3.00 ERA is getting rocked. Porcello has poise and isn't a pu$$y. Unlike Clay. He can pitch with men on base by bearing down. So you're saying he only tries hard part of the time? What a slacker.

So you're saying he only tries hard part of the time? What a slacker. I was about to reply that Porcello indeed only tries hard part of the time, but contrary to what was claimed, only when noone's on base. I had, after all, checked the stats after about a month of play and confirmed that his career split of being much better with the bases empty was intact. However, just to be safe, I decided to check the stats again. Wow. Porcello has completely turned it around. As a reminder, here are his career splits: Bases empty 12.7 K-BB% 1.72 GB/FB Men on 6.2 K-BB% 1.84 GB/FB And now, here's 2016: Bases empty 15.7 K-BB% 1.02 GB/FB Men on 17.1 K-BB% 2.13 GB/FB Funny thing is, of the few flyballs he's given up with men on base, an abnormally large percentage (16.7%) have gone for home runs. This has kept his FIP splits essentially equal. If that normalizes, he is now actually pitching BETTER with men on base than with the bases empty, in total contrast to the rest of his career. And he's definitely pitching DIFFERENTLY, the batted ball profile tells the story. So... the Tale of Two Porcellos continues, with a very interesting plot twist!

David Price is quietly having his best game of the year. So far hasn't given up a run and he hasn't had a scoreless game all year.....

So Sandy Leon has had one year in his career before that's been even remotely close to what he has done in this SSS. He hit .322/.396/.460 (.856 OPS) mostly at AA and AAA, over 231 PA his age 23 season. He then batted .267/.389/.333 (.722 OPS) at MLB over 36 PA in a brief callup.
He then got bounced around, sent down the next year all the way back to AA for his age 24 season, putting up a horrendous .542 OPS (including a stint in the NYPL, so I assume he was dealing with injury as well). That year, though, he put up a .353/.451/.487 (.938 OPS) in Venezuelan winter ball. Sure, low competition, but dominated. After that he never really seemed right - falling flat on his face the next season between AAA and MLB (hitting around a high .500's OPS combined). I'm not trying to say that he's a good hitter, or has some crazy track record. His career line in the minors is .238/.325/.330 (.654 OPS). But if he truly is a late bloomer/fixed something with his swing/is feeling fully healthy for the first time in a while and can put up something even close to a .700 OPS, he is quite valuable considering his defense. I'm just enjoying watching him smash line drives and throw out runners every game. His hard contact % has almost doubled from last season.

I'm not sure if this is a fluke with Leon. Like the last poster pointed out before me, everything he is hitting is usually getting crushed. This isn't some soft hitting streak here. It's very fun to watch.

And it's probably the game with the least amount of posts in the gameday thread. There's nothing to complain about. Ziegler looked good. I had never seen him pitch before that I remember.

Very nice win, and important to sweep that series from the Rays going into the All-Star break. Much needed outing from Price and nice to see Ziegler dominate at the end. Given the market over the winter, the Ziegler trade seems like it was perfect for helping this season without forfeiting too much future value. Now, Benintendi and Moncada just have to duke it out for the Futures Game MVP and my Sunday will be complete.

I remember when Ziegler used to pitch for Oakland. It was pretty cool way to close the book on the first half of the season.

Nice quick lead. I'm seeing some of the usual NESN gripes this year. I've been very appreciative of Joe Castiglione (old-guy-flubs included) and Tim Neverett has done well. I'd power rank a day at the park, then radio, then video as a last resort. I haven't listened to all that many WEEI broadcast, but I like Neverett, he seems solid. I never actually like O'Brien on the radio. But who's the third guy in the radio booth today?

Lou Merloni.
I'm not a fan of Neverett. Yesterday he was pontificating that Mookie's 74 runs scored put him in a special category of player because "the game is about scoring runs!" If only Joe Castig's name was Susan — he had that tone. Earlier in the year he said, after a player made the 3rd out at 3rd base — "there's NO DIFFERENCE between being on second or third. NONE."
I truly don't think he knows much about baseball. Decent pipes though.

Jays, O's, Astros all win. Thats a bit of a bummer. Oh well. 2 GB, 2 game lead on a playoff spot with another starter likely on the way soon.
