Apparently the market views Abad as considerably less valuable that the other lefty relievers as Chapman, Miller and now Smith went for much more than him. But the stats say we won this one (unless we missed on Light...doubtful). Smith is younger and cheaper, so I understand him having more value. The discrepancy in talent acquired though is huge between the two and it shouldn't be. Agreed and I think DDo saved us some prospects buy finding a less flashy lefty.

The Yanks have been saying that Beltran really cannot play the outfield any more.

Who was the person here who said a few weeks ago that the Yankees wouldn't be able to rebuild for 3 or more years? I remember I replied and posted some info about the 2018 Free Agent Class, but it appears they will surround Machado, Harper and Kershaw with young controllable above average MLB players then, too. Or trade them for established above average players or stars.
Surprised they haven't moved Gardner or Betances yet. In this market they would likely command a mint in prospects.

But you keep forgetting that package was for Hill and Reddick. If you read my post now I edited it to show I was thinking Reddick alone was worth a Holmes type prospect. I guy that might be able to give the Dodgers 2bwar in the next 60 games. So it's more like they got Montas and Cotton for Hill. Not sure how Dave Cameron can compare those trades, as A's traded two players and Padres only traded one guy. I would still take Espinoza over they Dodgers package. Yes there's more risk, but also a much higher upside. If this is how you feel then it must be pretty hard to compare any two trades ever because they aren't exactly the same.
And I'm not forgetting it was for both guys, I think Pomeranz is more valuable than the two combined. These are both rentals, and both have had injury issues this year, Reddick's been worth one win so far and is projected to be worth less than one more for the rest of the season.
Again, I don't necessarily prefer what the Dodgers gave, I'm very partial to Espinoza, I'm just saying I don't think it's so obviously a worse offering, and I'm fairly certain if you offered each to Major League GM's it wouldn't be unanimous.
Reddick has a bwar of 2.2 in 68 games. EDIT; Look at what Mets gave up for Bruce, yes he has one more year on contract, but he's only been worth .7 bwar in 97 games, due to negative 1.9 bwar on D. Reddick is a much better player, it's not even close.

They're not going to sign Harper, Machado and Kershaw. Please come back to the real world. Sabathia, Beltran, Aroid and Teixiera will be off the books. Maybe Tanaka, too with the opt-out. Not like there is a lot available this off-season. I think the cash register will be open, but maybe Hal sells the team by then.

It's easy to make these statements but I will be shocked if more than one get to FA. The Dodgers have more than enough money to extend Kershaw and I would put him as the least likely to reach free agency. Angelos would be ran out of town if he let Machado get away to the rival Yankees. We saw just this offseason how he will extend the checkbook (which he has plenty of) to bring back a player he really likes and believes in and he'll do it for Machado too. Harper on the other hand I believe will cherish the opportunity to live the free agency dream and play in a mega market like NY. So while the prospect haul has been impressive for rebuilding the farm I don't think the free agent bonanza everyone is afraid of will be nearly that worrisome.

Maybe the Twins really like Light, like they would of drafted him that year but we got him first. Who knows. I will take it. Yes, they drafted him in the 28th round in 2009.

Maybe Fernandez instead of Kershaw... www.soxprospects.com/future.htmI'll take the 2019 fantasy roster of players who the Red Sox actually have in their system over that. EDIT: That is inadvertantly a great reminder of what awful shape the Yankees are in right now. The only major leaguers on their current team that make it to that 2019 fantasy roster are Tanaka and Ellsbury. And unless Ellsbury keeps trending upward on reaching on catcher's interference, he's not going to be good in 2019.

And the Mets gave up very very little for Jay Bruce. Not saying he's better than Reddick, he's obviously not but what does that have to do with this?

Yankees are making the right moves, but lettuce not forget the Ranaudo, Johnson, Owens, De La Rosa, Webster "roster crunch". I know we suck at developing starters but that doesn't mean the Yankees are much better

They're not going to sign Harper, Machado and Kershaw. Please come back to the real world. Why not? They'll have the money. Most of the big contracts will be off the books and they'll be able to surround the expensive mid 20s free agents with a young inexpensive up and coming core.

Because they're not the only team in baseball with money and they're not going to spend over a billion dollars on three players in one off-season. The days of the Big Bad Yankee Boogeymen have been over for awhile. Yes they have resources but they're not going to build some fantasy superteam.

How can they add Reddick and not get one prospect as good as Anderson? Huh?! about an hour ago scottysmalls said: It's not at all obvious that the Dodgers package is worse (in total) than Espinoza. Montas and Holmes (especially) are legit prospects and Cotton's not bad either. Aside from that, the Sox get Pomeranz for two additional years than they would have for Hill. This is all about Hill's value and how little they got for him, not about what the A's and Padres got in total. Hence I'm showing you Reddick's value and why I think he was worth just about if not Holmes himself. So A's wanted Espinoza from us, but waited he got injured no surprise there and they ended up getting Montas and Cotton.

Machado, Fernandez, Harper all Boras clients, as is Matt Harvey (also a FA that year) if he bounces back. And despite big teams the ability to re-sign certain players, never underestimate a player's desire to test the market. Also keep in mind other guys in that class as of now: David Price, Josh Donaldson, AJ Pollock, Dallas Kuechel, Garrett Richards, and Andrew McCutcheon (who will be 32 and more of a "name" than an elite guy at that point). Not saying this is a lock but would anyone here be surprised if NYY did grab three of the top young guys?
