I do get the moral ambiguity around steroids vs stimulants vs creatine vs surgery vs etc. It's all a spectrum, and there are inequities everywhere. The line has been drawn somewhat arbitrarily. The line seems to be drawn exactly where it needs to be in order for people to minimize the accomplishments of players they didn't like in the first place. In some ways, yeah. I certainly think there's a very large media element involved...similar to the intense effort to destroy Tom Brady and lionize Peyton Manning. FWIW, I don't buy the A-Rod caricature fed to everyone. He's a far more complex being than the unidimensional "cheater" most people like to envision him as. I'm sure it makes them feel good to be able to look down on such an accomplished guy. Hate is addictive. Personally, I hope he turns things around and does whatever good he can for the young guys he works with, and the game. I don't much like him, but it would be great if he did the sort of things with the rest of his life that convinced me to change my mind. If Ty Cobb is a HOFer, and Pete Rose should be (according to many), then maybe A-Rod is, too. And that's where your point is best taken: Cobb was a malignant racist, and Rose bet on baseball (and lied repeatedly about it, never really taking responsibility). So despite the Hall's "requirements," it still has those guys, and the Phil Rizzutos. The sanctity of the HOF is an illusion.

The hall of fame is more baseball history than anything else and this is part of its history as is rose. Great players should be in the Hall and the stories told.

Come on the line is the same for all steroid users. The thing with ARod is it seems he played majority of his career on Roids. I've seen reports that he started in minors. So calling him one of the top 5 or 10 players ever is laughable in my opinion. Look at Bonds and Clemens, we know when they started using and can see the massive uptick in stats as they got older and should have been declining. So please don't tell me Roids don't make you a better player and increase your stats.
