Wow, Ben C being named president of baseball ops for Blue Jays. Not president, he'll be named vice-president of baseball operations. His main role will be player development, which is really his forte. Yeah I misheard the report while listening to the Rays/BJs game. Thanks

He's good at that job; this Red Sox team is largely his creation. I wish we could have retained him in that role but I get why not.

I don't think BC would have been interested in that reduced role with Boston.

Jays lose! Thank you Rays.
Toronto seems to be in serious trouble.
The Yanks have to beat Kershaw tonight.

TB up 6-1 in top of 7th. Donaldson getting an MRI on a bad hip. We need to get rid of the Orioles threat to the division tonight. There are 4 games in Baltimore next week, and 18 tough ones left overall. A victory tonight is obviously preferable to a loss, but it by no means gets rid of the O's in any way.

No, but a win tonight drops Toronto to -3.5 and Balt -3. Yes, lots of tough AL East games coming but that is a lot of ground for either to make up over last 17 games. Would be great for this team to be up 3 or even 4 in that last series (vs. Toronto) in Boston. One game at a time, though. Win tonight and then worry about the next game tomorrow.

It becomes pretty unlikely if they're up 3 without a collapse by Boston or epic run by Baltimore. With 17 games after tonight, if the Red Sox go 9-8, the Orioles would have to go 12-5 to tie. Of course it's possible, but they're probably at about a 95% chance to win the division.

Why did JF hold back with Benny by inserting Chris Young in line up against RH starter tonight? Does CY have good lifetime against Kevin Gausman?

I don't like to place too much emphasis on one game, but this is a huge opportunity tonight to create a little breathing room in the division race. Depending on the outcome tonight, the Red Sox will be either three games ahead of both TOR and BAL, or one game up on BAL and two on TOR. Hopefully Porcello is on his game tonight once again.

I don't think BC would have been interested in that reduced role with Boston. Wouldn't Vice President actually be a promotion to GM? Either way, I don't think that was the issue. Ben knows Dave D. doesn't build farm systems and Ben probably doesn't believe in that philosophy. That and I think Ben wanted a break from baseball for a while.

They made Rick work, with a little help from Hanley and Pedey. But a zero is always good.

Not to start this conversation again but. . . Dave kept the rest of Ben's staff in Boston and was hired by a group of owners who know full well the importance of a healthy and thriving farm system.

Is this a seasoned veteran move starting Young now that Benintendi is available?
