Maybe with scoring 0 runs for Porcello means Erod and Pomeranz will get some runs next time out.

Farrell is about to lose his seventh straight one run game.

Can't score 0 runs against Kevin Gausman in the heat of the playoff race. Sorry. He is a good pitcher and has been fantastic in his last five starts. Plus great pitching conditions.

Nice throw by Mookie, but really stupid base running by Machado there. Mookie has a cannon.

Britton is a country, not a pitcher. And London Bridge is gonna fall fuckin down, right now.

Let's spoil Britton's streak.

Frustrating they can't win a 1-0 game with this offense.

Garbage.
Nothing can be even semi-easy with this team.

Hanley just embarrassed himself up there.

Some nights you just run into good pitching. Tough break.

Tip our cap to the pitching of the O's tonight. That was some filthy stuff. One damn pitch was the difference. We need to sweep the Yankees.....still believin'

I thought this was interesting from Evan Drellich.
"If the Red Sox scored fewer runs and had more close games, they would have a better perception. That’s twisted."

Play your best players. Benintendi needs to play every game from here on out.

Sick of hearing "best offense in baseball". Shows how deceptive blanket statements are. Their record on low scoring/close games, and inability to rally late (for the most part) makes this a really, really odd team. Great on paper, loaded with talent, exciting - and often so, so frustrating

Legit pitchers duel tonight. Not the result I wanted, but baseball rules.
Since the start of July, Rick Porcello has a 2.48 ERA, 78 Ks and 8 (yes, eight) walks. David Price has a 2.77 ERA, 90 strikeouts and 19 walks.

Why was young starting... Because he played well last night, obviously. Farrell is a lot of things, but he's no mystery at this point.

Runs aren't distributed as evenly as we like, but we're in an excellent spot.

You can't satisfy your urge to blame someone tonight. Just good pitching by the O's staff.
At least now the table is set for Ortiz to pass Mantle against the Yanks.

For me, "best" would encompass elements of timeliness, consistency, and intangibles (winning a reasonable number of close games, rallying now and then late in close games). So it is another great examples of metrics/stats vs perceptions - well, being a fan of the team, and dealing with the frustration that this team often brings.

Scott Lauber says it pretty well on the ESPN site - "Red Sox are 13-48 when they score less than five runs, which speaks not to an inability to win close games or to produce in close/late situations but rather to the fact that they can't win low-scoring games. That's a problem for a team that wants to advance deep in October, when runs are at a premium."
