Congratulations to Williams Jerez on his major-league callup! What a tribute to perseverance.

Kerry Crowley @ko_Crowley Follow Follow @ko_Crowley
It appears Casey Kelly is wearing No. 68 and has joined the #SFGiants today.
No move is official, but he's out on the field for the team photo today. Good day to arrive.

I don’t know if this was mentioned but Thursday August 16th at 6:30 there doing a Red Sox prospects about Ryan Westmoreland. I think Gordon Edes interviews him.
The following week August 23rd. At 9pm there doing Andy Yount. This could be interesting I hope they make this a regular program.

Ty Buttrey pitched An inning for the Angels last night. Saw it last night: a sharp double and 3 grounders for a scoreless inning. He was sitting 97 and the splitter looked good too. But I've been a fan of Kinsler for years so...

Cool deal. I wish him well against everyone not Red Sox, as I do with all of our ex-prospects.

I don’t regret the trade, but I am still bummed not to see Kopech with the Sox. No matter how he ends up, just seeing his fastball would be special.

Buttrey, Jerez and Noe Ramirez pitched back to back to back last night, but they were no match for Buchholz, who ended with a 7 4 0 0 0 7 line. Ziegler also appeared for the Diamondbacks.

Buttrey's last 3 outings against the D'Backs, Astros, and Rockies: 12 BFP, 6 SO, 4 GB, 1 PU, 1 BB. A Josh Reddick GB went into RF for the only hit. Assuming that Nolan Arenado's popup to 3B could have been handled by the SS, he could have managed with just a C, SS and 1B.

Cool deal. I wish him well against everyone not Red Sox, as I do with all of our ex-prospects. Naturally, Kopech is missing the Yankees and will match up against Porcello in the Friday series opener.
His line so far: 8 10 1 1 0 8, 3 HBP. His first start was shortened to 2 IP by rain.
But he really hasn't been that good. .381 xwOBA, with a .364 SA versus .503 expected, so he's been lucky, and probably lucky to not have given up a multi-run bomb. He's also faced ridiculously weak lineups (Twins, Tigers), with an 84 RPA+ (BP's version of wRC+), and that's a first order number that doesn't factor in that those lame hitters have disproportionately been facing the lame AL Central pitchers.
It looks like he's been pounding the strike zone and has been really hittable (his .303 BA allowed is exactly as expected). Should be fun.

It is amazing he has no walks. I watched that 2-inning game, and his command and control didn’t look great. I suspect a patient team can have him out after about 4 innings. But when/if he has command? Yikes.

Old friends who've become free agents: ATL: Miguel Socolovich CHC: Ali Solis (released) CIN: Tim Federowicz CLE: Alexi Ogando NYM: Bryce Brentz OAK: Raul Alcantara TB: Brandon Snyder Brentz strikes me as the most interesting given all of the hullabaloo last season about keeping him on the 40-man, etc. He hit .264/.332/.580 in Las Vegas but an injury kept him out for 12 weeks from early May through late July. If that sentence isn't the Bryce Brentz experience, I'm not sure what is. www.baseballamerica.com/stories/minor-league-transactions-sept-17-oct-4/

Still crazy that Raul Alcantara is only 26. He doesn't walk anyone, and 10 homers allowed in 83 1/3 in the PCL really isn't terrible - only three of those came at home, most came in those old PCL parks the ball flies out of. Two homers in SLC, one in Colorado Springs, one in Albuquerque. He's totally the type of pitcher who would get people way too excited by putting up a 2.75 ERA at Pawtucket.

www.mlb.com/news/afl-players-likely-to-make-next-years-top-100/c-298099314?tid=151437456Among AFL position players, White Sox outfielder Luis Alexander Basabe should make the biggest move into the Top 100 in 2019. And speaking of the switch-hitting center fielder with 20-20 potential . . . Seven outfielders rank among the top 14 prospects on MLB Pipeline's White Sox Top 30: Eloy Jimenez, Luis Robert, Blake Rutherford, Basabe, Micker Adolfo, Steele Walker and Luis Gonzalez. Jimenez, the system's top prospect and No. 3 on our Top 100, is a lock to man one of the corners, likely left field. He should arrive early in 2019 and settle into the third spot in Chicago's lineup for years.

Callis said this about Basabe: "I like Basabe second-best among all these outfielders because he can do a little of everything, offers the best combination of ceiling and floor and might be the best all-around defender among them as well. Let's stick him in center field."
