Moreland shouldn't be starting against LHP. In a healthy lineup he wouldn't be. But he's playing well and Chris Young is already playing too.

John "hot hand" Farrell has consistently shown a willingness to play guys outside of their platoon roles if they have been hitting well. He's done that with Chris Young, Jonny Gomes, etc. throughout the years.

This year's version of the Red Sox is going to be (relatively) light on home run power but heavy on these kinds of rallies. They're among the league leaders in batting average, OBP and doubles and should continue to perform well in those categories.

Nice work on capitalizing on the error, hopefully Xander can further cash in here.

Hanley hasn't played a inning at first base since last season. Well, he hasn't been healthy enough to play 1B. He wants to DH. That's the real problem. Can't force someone to play a position they don't want any part of.

We're on schedule for a 4 1/2 hour game. Considering that I'm 12 hours time different, considering the recent schedule and considering that I'm older than dirt, this might kill me.

They're among the league leaders in batting average, OBP and doubles and should continue to perform well in those categories. Unlike those cases though, the "hot hand" is also a positive defensively and the projected platoon partner is in the starting lineup because of an injury. Moreland could be hitting like usual-season Moreland and be (at least arguably) the right play given the configuration of the rest of the team. This isn't Daniel Nava on the bench for a worse hitter and defensive player because Farrell likes the cut of Gomes' jib.

It seriously baffles my mind that Rickie Weeks is still playing professional baseball.

Wright is looking a lot better. He's starting to look like the Wright that pounds the strike zone.

Wright is looking a lot better. He's starting to look like the Wright that pounds the strike zone. Maybe stop making sweeping proclamations about how a player looks every inning? First inning: ball up, must be broken. Second inning: no hits, must be fixed.

First inning: ball up, must be broken. Second inning: no hits, must be fixed. When have I ever made a proclamation? I never said anything about being broken or fixed. Wright was pitching up in the zone and was getting smoked earlier and he is now throwing more strikes. These are observations, not proclamations.

With all the roster moves it's pretty hard to draw any conclusions about how Farrell will manage this specific team.
