We're struggling because our golden boys are. Why don't we blame them? Xander, Benny and now even Mookie. We're in last without; Sale, Kimbrel and Pomeranz if we keep all those prospects

I've been extremely critical of the Cherington regime. But moves that eat into the depth just exacerbate the problem - you can't develop pitching depth when you trade it all. The Red Sox drafted three college arms in the 2016 draft, all three were having decent years, and they've traded two of them for rentals this week. Another problem with Cherington is the bad free agent contracts made it so the team needs to trade players to fill holes, rather than do it with money. The Sox weren't in a position to take on a contract in order to save prospect costs. As far as revisionism, this isn't it. I'm pretty consistent laying out how I feel about a trade at the time it happens. It is revisionist when you tie in the Fister start with the trades you mentioned. Fister starting is a tactical response to our current depth, the trades were strategic responses to a system problem.

They've played .538 baseball this year (equivalent to an 87-win team). I think they're probably underachieving to some extent, but it's hard to figure this group to be better than 92 wins. And there are some non-prospects in there, but there are a solid 15 players, (adding Callahan and Nogosek but not including graduates Margot and Shaw) who would rank in the system's current Top 40. And trading prospects for veterans isn't, in and of itself, bad - The Ziegler, Hill, Abad, and Sale trades were ones I liked at the time, and this Reed deal is one I am fine with. And rental trades aren't necessarily bad either. The volume hurts, though. Yeah, DD really likes trading away multiple player packages, doesn't he? I understand that the sheer number is bad, but at the same time if you don't make these deals there's a good chance the team wouldn't have won the division last year and they would be probably at the bottom this year. DD took over after the Red Sox finished last in the division and 15 and 25 games out of the playoffs, I know they had a legendary farm system but a lot of the young guys are still around. There's only one team in the majors that won more games this year than the Red Sox and is also younger overall (MFY). Whatever works.

It would be nice if Porcello had a 10-4 record instead of 4-14.
Edit: Porcello is listed as having a 10-4 record on the pitching matchups on the first post.

I was looking at the pitching matchups listed on page one and thought something wasn't quite right.

Players do go into slumps and they also get hurt. But we do need to credit Dombrowski for having had the foresight some of us lack. Those kids can't be expected to carry the team as if Ortiz was still leading the way. The POBO seems to have gambled that good pitching would be the key. Sale has been exceptional, Pomeranz better than good, and Kimbrel has once again returned to his largely untouchable form. That, as others have pointed out, has kept the team at or near the top. Am I happy with all the talent that's been sent off? No. But that is what it took to assemble a team that has a good chance to make it to the playoffs even without the big bopper. We need to give credit where it's due.

Sox will sweep them just because baseball is weird Baseball isn't weird enough to make Doug Fister serviceable. Either way I like Devers hitting ahead of Bogey and Moreland. Would like to see Mookie moved out of the leadoff spot, but it would be for Pedey and obviously hes hurt.

Mr. Gomes can not be mistaken for being negative. He has a spot in the clubhouse anytime, nobody gonna bully him in there.
