Very tragic! My prayers go out to his family. I was so looking forward to watching him play at Fort Myers in two years or so!

This is really strange and what seems like random news. Wish this was a mistake in reporting. Life is short folks. Get right with your creator and love the one you're with.

Wow. At his age you think you're superman and will live forever. Terrible news. Cancer takes so many... and impacts many around them. Very sad.

Pancreatic cancer? At 17? My god.

If this is accurate, the prognosis for late stage pancreatic cancer is very poor. It is generally diagnosed in the late stages. I'm curious when they even diagnosed this. Sadly, his treatment was unlikely to help much, again if this mention of late stage pancreatic cancer is accurate. It's one of the worst cancers to have.

A friend of mine died from pancreatic cancer in his early 50's. No one had any clue he had it until 3 weeks before his death. And in his case, it was the actual cancer that caused his death. In the case of Mr. Flores, apparently he was undergoing aggressive treatment for his condition and something went wrong. If his treatment was, say, experimental (lots of times the high risk/high reward treatments are tried as part of clinical trials in late stages when traditional treatments won't help) and a dose was too much for him, things COULD have gone south very quickly.

Tony Horton Harry Agganis Tony Conigliaro Roger Moret Ryan Westmoreland Daniel Flores
So talented and so young who lost their lives or had physical injuries or mental health problems that ended their careers so early. Profoundly sad.

Always difficult when someone this young dies. All we're left with are promise and potential, the ghosts that haunt those left behind. A terrible loss. All sympathy to the family.

Just tragic. As a medical professional, with a girlfriend who volunteers at “the shining stars” program to teach children with cancer to ski, I sometimes have contact with children who have cancer and arthritis. Please have mercy on them everyone, <deleted>

All I can think about is his family. Cant imagine what they must be going through. Being told your son will almost certainly make the highest level of baseball and then... well...

Apparently Flores had testicular cancer. He had been tested extensively in July and there were no signs. Apparently the Boston Globe has the story this morning. I couldn't read most of it. I read the portion that was on WEEI.com. So awful.

It is remarkable how sad and close to home this hits. I was diagnosed with testicular cancer 3 years ago when I was 26. It all started due to swelling and really back pain. Surgery a week later and it still metastasized out of my groin. Even if it spreads it is still 90% prognosis, just a damn shame to see someone so talented be lost too early.
