The Youth of that kid breaks my heart. And I'm not even that much of a cynical bitter old fart to begin with.
Was he the one sign that they said could be the next Pudge Rodriguez
Edit: thinking of his mother, and his family actually brings a tear to my eye

I doubt I'm the only one wiping my eyes after reading that. I can't bring myself to read it.

Fewer than 10 days between first symptoms and his death...stunning. I wake up each morning after the announcement briefly wondering if this could really have happened. I have never heard of anything remotely like this occurring, and it happens to such a good person with such an amazing potential future. Devastating.

I have never heard of anything remotely like this occurring, and it happens to such a good person with such an amazing potential future. Devastating. This is what stuns me too. I know, like everybody does, that cancer can be a devastating disease. What I never heard of before was a diagnosis, especially in the case of a young healthy athlete, being followed in just a few days by death. Fans that we all are, the Sox obviously are not even a small part of this emotion and baseball is reduced, for the moment at least, to its proper small place in life. Such a fine young man. As I sit here now I realize what was said earlier in this thread. There just are no words. None. - Dick

We have put Daniel Flores' image on the top banner of the site, where it will stay for a year. You may need to hit ctrl alt refresh.

It's going to be so sad when this site has to take him off the rankings. The system took a major hit with this kids passing. It just stinks so much. Still days later, I just don't want to believe this. I thought this system was getting back to top 15 status with this superstar in it.

He was the centerpiece of the Red Sox farm system rebuilding effort. Houke, Brannen, and Scherf have potential but for Flores, the sky was the limit. I thought he was destined to be a major leaguer with impact like Margot and Devers before him. He certainly had the right attitude. A defensive catching gem with a potential switch hitting bat with pop. I still can't wrap my head around him playing, getting diagnosed a few days later and within 10 days being gone. It's heartbreaking.
