For those wondering, you're eligible when you reach A-ball. I have no idea why Joan Martinez wasn't drafted. Elsewhere, we know that (likely free agent) Brentz is playing in Mexico and Travis is playing in the DR. Also most of the players native to the country they played in will play for the same teams as last year: www.soxprospects.com/fall-winter2016.htm Should be interesting to see who plays on the VZ Liga Paralela team this year. Might be one of the older teams they've had in a while. Even last year's team was relatively old.

Hector Velazquez will pitch in Mexico this winter. I thought after the concern they expressed regarding his 216 IP workload last year, they'd hold him out this year.

I'm not sure what can be gained here if this was a Sox decision. He is 28, has good command, is not going to gain velocity or likely stuff. Maybe he just wanted to pitch...a little more money..and the Sox said "OK".

When do the Winter Leagues start play? Here's last year's FW page, for reference. www.soxprospects.com/fall-winter2016.htmHector Velazquez will pitch in Mexico this winter. If you're native to a country, you're already drafted and on a roster - it's whether the MLB team allows you to play. It's not like a situation where the club will place a U.S.-born or Cuban-born player with a team, like the Sox tend to do with Alex Cora's team in PR regularly. Velazquez has been pitching in Mexico's summer and winter leagues since 2010. It was a matter of whether the Sox were going to let him pitch. It does look like they requested he take a reduced workload, as he's not going to join his club until December, so he'll miss the first few weeks.

Anything to be read by Jhon Nunez being the first catcher drafted? Scouting report has him with a good arm and he hit pretty well in Salem this year. You have him repeating Salem as backup next year? Seems like we might have a decent situation at catcher in high A ball with him and Baldwin? Also, agree it's a bit surprising that Joan Martinez wasn't drafted. Any ideas why?

Nunez is pretty good - pretty solid if unspectacular in most respects. He's probably a Triple-A depth guy at peak, but who knows? The Martinez thing befuddles me. If Florentino gets drafted how doesn't Martinez? Very strange.

I mean, it's not a revamp or anything, just updated with this year's stats. But thanks.

Same thing. www.soxprospects.com/fall-winter2016.htm , www.soxprospects.com/fall-winter2015.htm , etc. If it ain't broke and whatnot. First time in a while that players I cared at all about were playing in Mexico. Certainly players who are worth watching in the three winter leagues that have started. Mexico: Brentz, Shepherd DR: Florentino, Haley, Jerez, Espinal, Marrero, Swihart, Travis VZ: De Jesus (although he's apparently being used as a LOOGY - 1.2 IP in 3 appearances), to a lesser degree Hernandez, Acosta, and Tovar. Looks like the economic situation in VZ is causing issues for the Liga Paralela. The league only has 6 teams (including the Sox entry) www.meridiano.com.ve/beisbol/beisbol-venezolano/163839/la-crisis-golpea-al-programa-de-desarrollo.html. I'll get the FW page updated with that info tonight - couldn't find anything on it yesterday. www.ligaparalela.com/inicio

Do we think that's Flores? I had that thought....certainly looks like it could be him. Throw in the CS in the first clip and the pitch frame in the second, and he might be the most impressive guy in these clips.

Where are they, just the Sox academy ? Neither is listed on a team. That looks like a better field than academy fields pictures I have seen.
