Yeah, unless it's tucked away in a weird spot, and I missed it too, the CBA doesn't say anything about the upper threshold taking away international bonus money. It looks like the only thing that takes away international bonus money is signing players who are offered a qualifying offer.

Wait sorry, the international money penalty is for signing a QO free agent. My bad. I think you're right. All these new penalties have my head spinning. To clarify: Going over second CBT threshold: first pick moved back 10 spots, top-10 protected. Signing a QO free agent: Depending on your revenue sharing status, either lose 3rd pick (sharing payee, non disqualified), 2nd and 5th pick and $1M int'l money (CBT payor), or 2nd pick and $500k int'l money (everyone else).

I guess Peter Gammons had that detail incorrect when he was on MLB network talking about the Red Sox a few days back.

Yeah, I had this wrong also, a while back after getting it from a synthesis of the CBA that Maury Brown put together. There is a bit to the agreement, after all, and most of us are not (ahem) lawyers.

Nothing yet on a report of a press conference?

Nothing yet on a report of a press conference? Haven't even heard that he's passed the physical yet. When there's a press conference you'll see it. It won't sneak past you.

Nunez got a full workout and it didn't take this long. Obviously something is happening. Boras flew into town. Lisfranc cost Alan Craig his career and the Sox a bundle. If there is an issue, Lisfranc or other, it will be handled carefully until all elements are resolved. JDM's privacy is protected by HIPPA, and neither DDo nor Boras will leak anything. We just have to wait a bit, knowing full well that JDM had a career year while dealing with that issue; and as a DH will take pressure of that foot.

Very interesting. I am sure Boras does a complete workup of his guys anyways, so it is probably nothing, but what if the Sox doctors see something that Boras' didn't.

At first I thought it was nothing, just extra testing or getting insurance, but he agreed Monday and we won't hear anything till Saturday at the earliest. First Boras was gone, now he's in town. Please don't let this be another Mike Napoli, that took 7 weeks. I don't want to even think about having to change the contract, not with Boras after like 3 months of negotiations already. I hate this offseason!

Of course this can't happen simply. I think it will eventually happen but there might be more negotiations so the Red Sox can protect themselves if there is an issue.
I doubt there is an issue that prevents him from being able to play at a high level. Unless there is a new injury, the guy was absolutely raking. It's probably like Drew and Napoli and Lackey where the Sox are protecting themselves for further down the road.

I'm not guaranteeing any time to Martinez on the field if he indeed did fail his physical. He shouldn't see time on the field. I'd rather see Swihart be the back-up outfielder anyways.
Either way, the D-Backs aren't even in on Martinez anymore. They've made 2 outfield moves since Martinez agreed with the Sox on Monday.

Martinez missed time last year with a Lisfranc sprain. He also missed additional time with the DBacks after getting hit in the hand. Additionally he suffered a broken elbow in 2016. Any or all of those injuries could be red flagged during his physical with the Red Sox. There could also be some ongoing discussions with Boras about renegotiating the deal due to the injuries. There could also be ongoing discussions with the Red Sox insurance company to see if their doctors and adjusters would insure Martinez contract. www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/18994900/detroit-tigers-jd-martinez-lisfranc-3-4-weeks

I can’t wait until the Sox lead the league in home run this year because Bogaerts breaks out, AB breaks 20, Mookie gets back to his 2016 level, Hanley is healthy and Devers plays a full year and hits 30 but everyone says it’s because of the presence of JDM. All of this could happen, I am a big believer that all of this could happen. What a story, from last to first in HRs, lead the league in runs scored and many of the young guys having break out years, fun stuff. Really looking forward to this season now and although I hate to see the Yankees be really good I must say having the evil empire to compete with makes it more interesting. Their could be many story lines this year with these two teams.
