Nunez is not a good second baseman. Get well soon Pedrioa.

Nunez is not a good fielder, that much I am certain of.

Has Nunez fielded anything cleanly this season?

Just heard Dave O'Brien say that one of the reasons Price appealed to the Red Sox was because he had a strong W-L record against AL East opponents, and am reminded again that baseball announcer is not a job that requires one to know what they're talking about.

What a job by Price. That was magic to get out of that.

No one is hitting anymore. Even Xander has stopped hitting recently.

This the kind of day when Benny, JBJ, Vazquez (just to name a few) need to elevate something to right and let the wind do the rest....so far, not a good game for contact. And it is a TB "bullpen" game!

The offensive struggles to start the season are disappointing. Let's hope it isn't a harbinger of things to come. The MFY just destroyed this team.

The swinging early strategy only works if they swing early at strikes.

The Sox are filled with non competitive at bats today.

Also in a game when the other team is using “the bullpen” as it’s “Starter” wouldn’t you want your hitters to be more patient to burn these guys out faster?

Ugly. Really, really ugly swings today at Tampa's bullpen with the wind blowing a gale to right. Ugh.

Price has to basically be perfect right now because of this offense.

Ugly. Really, really ugly swings today at Tampa's bullpen with the wind blowing a gale to right. Ugh. They aren't taking ugly swings at "Tampa's bullpen." They're taking ugly swings against Chirinos, who is looking pretty good for the second time this year. If they labeled Chirinos a starter it wouldn't automatically make him a more capable pitcher. Like I said in the gameday thread last week, I understand the reasons people are skeptical of Tampa's strategy long term. But facing a series of pitchers on short leashes is tougher on these hitters than if a mediocre pitcher labeled a starter was trying to slough through seven innings.

Just blowing off some steam and having some groundhog day moments - as someone up thread said, Yankees hit this staff hard - would hope to see more offense today...but could be the cold is playing a big role as well.

Keep battling Price.
Edit- If I had to guess, he's got one more inning in him with all the extra rest coming soon.

That was a great pick by Hanley on a poor throw by Bogaerts.

The swinging early strategy only works if they swing early at strikes. Devers just popped up a fly ball that was around his head on the first pitch.

Yeah I think the "Bullpen game" thing has gotten pretty overblown. Its not like they're throwing out 5-7 middle relievers to cover a game. They have a ton of young starters that they're easing into a major league workload by essentially piggybacking a couple every few days.

David Price could well be on his way to a 4-5 WAR year. He has looked so good, going back to last years playoffs.

Xander sure has cooled off. Are the Red Sox a good situational hitting team? A runner on third with no outs, most defenses just concede that run so early in the game. That run needs to score every time.

Tweet I saw a few minutes ago said that Xander is being pitched differently already, 40% fewer pitches over the middle than early on - but he is not the only one in an early season slump.
