They're meant to be a lot less formal than other threads on the forum, so to moderate them the same way would be silly. However, we do ask posters to maintain a certain level of decorum in these threads, and we plan on moderating the Gameday threads a little more actively this season. In particular, we ask that posters refrain from being overly repetitive with their posts (if you've made your point, let it go), refrain from monopolizing the discussion (if you are making more than a couple posts in a row, you probably need to slow down a little bit), and of course, follow the Ground Rules ( link). The point is to make these threads worth participating in and fun for all posters, from our long-time fixtures to people just signing up today. -The Management

Gonna be a tough series. Would be thrilled to see the Sox take 2 of 3. I imagine Betts will be back tonight which is good.

I doubt I make it through the whole game tonight but definitely want to make sure to watch the first few innings to see Ohtani pitch. These west coast games are tough for me to try and stay up and watch.

Show-tani. We are going to see him hit one game and see him pitch one game. So we get to see what this guy is all about.

When we're young naps are a punishment. For some time now naps are a vacation. When the Sox are on the Worst Coast, long naps are mandatory.

He may have some trouble after no plate appearances in over a week. But pummeling Kluber curves and Bauer heat for long home runs was quite impressive. Edit: although his is 23, and this would be his 3rd ever ML game pitched. And he's still in his first 25 at bats as a rookie.

I saw both games he started and frankly, if he pitches like in his 2nd outing it's gonna be really really hard to manufacture runs against him: I've never seen a pitcher capable of hitting his catcher mitt with a 98-100 mph heat with such consistency all game long and that splitter! Oh my god! absolute filth! You hope he hangs a slider to JDM with runner on base or work his pitch count 'cause their BP is not very good. I'm not gonna stress about that game and try to watch it from a baseball fan perspective not a Red Sox fan...if that makes sens. He's an extraordinary talent and it'll be fun to watch.

I'm really looking forward to watching this game - particularly watching Ohtani pitch and probably hit on Thursday.
This Angels team is a lot better than I anticipated and it's not all Ohtani. They have a pretty solid club. I originally didn't have them as one of the five best teams in the AL, but they will be. The Twins are decent but I think the Angels are better and I anticipate whichever team, the Sox or Yanks, don't finish first - will wind up playing the Angels in the Wild Card Game - perhaps with Ohtani pitching - and in the lineup?!

I'm in Florida with my Mom and have been watching on my phone. I got panicked when I got a message beginning "you have used all your T-Mobile monthly high-speed data ..." It took me a second to notice that it continued " ... and will begin using the 20441MB available in your Data Stash."
I just checked the message to write this, and noticed that this happened last August when I was also down here, at which point I started using 14304MB. I'm growing the stash faster than I can use it! So I think I'm cool here.
On this trip I've turned out the lights at 3:25, 3:26, 4:25, 3:06, and 3:36 AM (*), so I think I'm cool that way, too. I may print out a scorecard and do every pitch, although that has to be easier on a 65" screen than a 5".
* My CPAP machine records that automatically. But, yeah, I've got a spreadsheet. I average 5:15 +/- 1:25 of sleep at night and need 6:30 a day in the long run, so the first thing I do when I wake up is try to figure out whether I'll need to go back to bed in about two or three hours (**), and/or take a nap, and when that might happen.
**The clock in your brain that controls your sleep is actually two clocks, one for the evening and one for the morning. They can drift apart to allow us to go to bed at sundown and wake up at sunrise, so when we were hunter-gatherers, during the winter we'd go to bed early, wake up in the middle of the night and talk about our dreams and/or partake in basic entertainment, then go back to sleep for a few more hours. During the summer the two clocks are pushed together, and since the invention of artificial light that's been a year-round condition for almost everybody. My clocks have the evolutionary winter separation full-time.
And typing that up I came up with an idea for fixing it. Thank you, Ohtani-san!

Well, the Angels quietly acquired and extended Upton last year and last off-season. They also improved their infield a lot since last year too. They are a unique and interesting team for sure.

Yeah their lineup entering the year was potentially stacked. The Ohtani move got the headlines, but the Upton and Cozart signings and Kinsler trade were quietly very good. The question was the pitching. It's kind of crazy - they've already used NINE different starters. Part of it is keeping Ohtani going every 7th day or so. Part of it is losing JC Ramirez to Tommy John and Matt Shoemaker to a forearm strain. By the way, Noe freaking Ramirez has 13 k's in 7 1/3 innings for them. He's also walked 6, so it's not like he's been great, but still, that's a lot of punchouts for him.

Not in my skill set. I would like this 10 times if I could. I hope Ohtani gets lit up tonight and throws a no hitter against the Yankees. Sorry, not sorry. Ohtani is great for baseball, but if he thinks I'm rooting for him against the Sox, then he has another thing coming to him.

I’m one of the rare few that much prefers the late starts, since I work until 8 or 9 most nights.

Not in my skill set. I understand that. I gotta say though, for a player to be both pitching and hitting is really something. I am not one prone to hyperbole (95% of th time) but if he can sustain this level of success in both disciplines, well, he could end up being the best player ever. Nobody has done this before (even Ruth), but with level of competition...Sheesh.

I am good until 12:30 or 1 most nights - up at 7:30. Tired tonight though - spent most of the last two days selling tomato plants out of my driveway!
