They're meant to be a lot less formal than other threads on the forum, so to moderate them the same way would be silly. However, we do ask posters to maintain a certain level of decorum in these threads, and we plan on moderating the Gameday threads a little more actively this season. In particular, we ask that posters refrain from being overly repetitive with their posts (if you've made your point, let it go), refrain from monopolizing the discussion (if you are making more than a couple posts in a row, you probably need to slow down a little bit), and of course, follow the Ground Rules ( link). The point is to make these threads worth participating in and fun for all posters, from our long-time fixtures to people just signing up today. -The Management

Watch the Mariners play the Sox hard after laying down for the Yankees.

Watch the Mariners play the Sox hard after laying down for the Yankees. Really hate this attitude that teams just "lay down" for the Yankees. I'm sure the Mariners tried their best, the Yankees just happen to be really really good right now, and the last two games were decided between two and one runs respectively, not exactly blow outs. The Mariners are going to play the Sox hard, let's just hope we're better for three games.

What has been your opinion for the Twins when they play the Yankees then? Because they have something like a .300 record against New York the past what 15 years?

Because they have something like a .300 record against New York the past what 15 years? Yes it's a surprisingly low percent, but the Yankees have been good while the Twins haven't been generally. Maybe a mental aspect comes into it a bit but I'm sure the Twins try. It's a smaller sample but the Red Sox have a .680 winning percentage against the Phillies over the same time span, and are 12-1 against the Reds (obviously much smaller) despite not being as consistently good as the Yankees.

You really, honestly seem to think the group of 25 professional athletes who happen to wear the Twins uniform in 2018 just see the Yankee uniforms and stop trying, in the exact same way Joe Mauer and 24 other guys who happened to wear a Twins uniform in 2005 did.

I don't know. I don't think we have to be serious (meaning statistical) all the time. I like "the other teams lay down for the MFY" narrative. It makes me hate them more, and, it is just a fun damn thing to say.

That's when I get myself into trouble here, it is because of my emotions/passions - I am a Red Sox fan from the heart all the time - things like luck even themselves out and I don't really even pay much attention to it. Things like velocity off of the bat - interesting, all of the various hitting stats - interesting - but I watch because I love the team and want them to win. So the technical discussions leave me behind - on purpose. Really could not care much less about them.

So you have that going for you. Keep up the good work !!!

And posting it seriously/unironically is just kinda sad.

(And by the way, I always really enjoy the enthusiasm of your posts!) But it does get a little frustrating when people make emotional arguments to argue against empirical claims, even when their arguments are demonstrably empirically false.

It makes me hate them more, and, it is just a fun damn thing to say. I'm prone to saying things like the Twins lay down for the Yankees, and if you're logical and rational about it, of course it doesn't make sense. Hard to really imagine professional ballplayers quaking in their boots because they see pinstripes. But.....sometimes things like that can linger from a mental standpoint. I remember Darin Erstad making a comment about the Red Sox after they swept his Angels team in 04 saying the Sox can go all the way - if they can get the Yankees out of their heads. I do think players know who they struggle against and who they have success again. But, lay down......not really. But that said.....is there any team you'd less want to see the Yankees play than Minnesota?? Honestly. (And I know the logical will say "Yeah Baltimore!", but for me I hate seeing the Yankees and Twins play each other. It reminds me too much of Brooklyn/NYY and Boston/NYY before the Dodgers had their 1955 and the Sox had their 2004.)

Let's be honest, it was kind of like that for the Sox until 2004 broke it up (at least it has to be considered) as a fan. Friggin drove me nuts. All this stuff is based on neurotic MFY behavior that was brought on by years of frustration. That is why it is funny to me, most of the time.

It'll be great to see the Mitch Hanigers (slumping a bit) and the Dee Gordons of the world. The Mariners have an exciting team, and Paxton looked almost human yesterday!
Here's to Steve baffling the sea-goers and never having to see Sugar Diaz!

I thought the game started at 4:10. Walked in to check on it and it looks like the late innings! One of those nights at Fenway?
Add: Leblanc's pretty ERA is headed South.
