They're meant to be a lot less formal than other threads on the forum, so to moderate them the same way would be silly. However, we do ask posters to maintain a certain level of decorum in these threads, and we plan on moderating the Gameday threads a little more actively this season. In particular, we ask that posters refrain from being overly repetitive with their posts (if you've made your point, let it go), refrain from monopolizing the discussion (if you are making more than a couple posts in a row, you probably need to slow down a little bit), and of course, follow the Ground Rules ( link). The point is to make these threads worth participating in and fun for all posters, from our long-time fixtures to people just signing up today. -The Management

Would be something of a surprise if the countermoves aren't Haley to Pawtucket and Carson Smith to the 60-day.

I look forward to listening to FP Santengelo make vague distinctions between Jesus Christ and Bryce, how Max Sherzer is better than Chris Sale "not only that his pitches are better, but his heart". Also enjoyed how he threw shade on Mookie Betts size and strength a couple years ago (I think mooks stole two bases at once in that game), saying "he doesn't have a baseball body"
I like homers, guys like Hawk are fun to listen to. This isn't just a DC-sox thing, FP routinely says cringe worthy borderline hateful things about anyone. There's a difference between Hawk and FP I can't put my finger on. Maybe sincerity? Obnoxiousness?
Also I feel like Jerry and Eck are relatively unbiased compared to a lot of guys. Which is cool, IMO

Going on Wednesday for the Patriots Day-esque 11am start with my family. Thankfully it's not supposed to be quite as hot as it's been the past couple days here.
Kind of disappointing that they're rolling with Johnson tomorrow rather than calling up Beeks, but I guess I get it - if you're not using Johnson here, no point in having him on the roster really.

It seems like mlb.tv has banned VPNs, so I won't get to watch this series because I'm supposed to watch on a channel I can't get or drive 4 hours each way to commute.

Yes...I'm going tonight, myself, with sib and nephews, and hydrating all day, in anticipation, and have my frogtog at the ready for what is forecast as "feels like" at about 110 degrees, when we leave for the stadium, and, thankfully, a tick below 90, by end of game!

I don't expect to win game 1, but the rest you can win easily.

There really is no one on the 40 already available? Shepherd's probably the only one they'd really want in a long relief role, and he pitched Thursday and he seems to be someone they want to keep on a rotation/regular schedule. They're probably not going to want to go to Cuevas in anything other than an emergency extra innings or blowout situation, he almost certainly clears waivers if they remove him from the 40-man, and if someone does actually claim him you'd miss that depth but not be crushed by it.

I just read that and was going to post here. Conley is the only one of the 3 I'm interested in. Barraclough has big walk issues and a .103 BABIP so I don't expect him to be better than many pitchers in our current bullpen. I certainly don't see him as a potential closer to replace Kimbrel like Morosi mentioned. Steckenrider is a possibility, but he has 5 years of control (I think) so they probably want too much for him, like maybe another Travis Shaw plus 3 good prospects that we don't have.

Barraclough's walk issue worry me, too. It's really hard watching closers go 3-2 on just about every batter while pitching in high leverage. Kimbrel doesn't have the world's greatest control, but it's far better than Barraclough. No way I'd rather have him as our closer.
I guess Conley's conversion to relief is working out for him.
Never heard of Steckenrider before but his control is a bit spotty, too.
I think the Sox should go elsewhere for relief help.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. He probably clears waivers when you want someone else. They still have Maddox to 60-day as well.

I don't expect to win game 1, but the rest you can win easily. Don't know about that. You never know with Brian Johnson. I wouldn't consider Tuesday's game an easy win. I do like the E-Rod/Fedde matchup. E-Rod is due for a strong game.

The MFY played the Nationals 4 times and didn't have to face Scherzer

Barraclough doesn't have that.

Cuevas is on the team with Haley's return and Smith's move to the 60.

To say the Sox are underdogs in game 1 of the series, that would be a understatement.

Why not have Beeks start and Johnson relieve him? If Beeks falls apart you have Johnson to avoid having to use 5 pitchers, and Johnson had a 2.08 ERA in June and a 2.65 ERA in night games. If Beeks is solid then you bring in Johnson and give the bullpen a night off. Also, because of the stats I mentioned, I don't think Johnson is useless.
