It's just kind of funny- I doubt you can name a team that had three such historically good defenders (Pedroia, Kinsler, Philips) at one position (2B), and yet we have to watch Holt play there consistently.

Watching the way Eovaldi is pitching tonight as a Red Sox, it became abundantly clear to me that we live in the matrix.

The Sox could get really taxed bullpen wise if Eovaldi doesn't make it through 5 innings in this game....

Steve Lyons using the analytics stats (commenting on Eovaldi’s fastball percentage) but in a way the analystics guys would disagree with (saying Eovaldi should throw the fastball more).

Question: if you were ready to extend Eovaldi after his first start in Boston, can you say this is just one bad start?

Question: if you were ready to extend Eovaldi after his first start in Boston, can you say this is just one bad start? Absolutely. Eovaldi is a quality arm, just one of those nights.

We have to accept that Eovaldi wasn't that great before the Sox picked him up. It is a wonderful 2 starts, hope for many more this year, but this is a guy eminently capable of you-know-what-ing the bed.

Second inning - lots of time to put up runs...but the bullpen is going to be taxed. it should not be a surprise if the team goes through a bit of a slip...too early to tell how this will go tonight, of course.
Glad to be listening/watching via Gamecast - since I can't watch it.
And...the MFY are down 3 themselves.

Question: if you were ready to extend Eovaldi after his first start in Boston, can you say this is just one bad start? I imagine that the team would know a lot that we don't. My guess is that working with Butler instead of Leon could be a factor, but there are probably many things. I'm still fine with signing him after this start, although we have a long way to go before we have to worry about that. One bad start isn't going to make me regret the trade or miss Beeks either.

This could just be one of those games for Eovaldi for sure. I judge pitchers on a pattern and not single games. Let's hope it is just one of those games because we need him

how can you have Eovaldi's stuff and have one swing and miss all game after 60+ pitches? That's some Joe Kelly stuff when he started.

If JBJ isn't catching catchable balls, then that's a bad omen for this game.

Well, at least Porcello and Eovaldi didn't do this against the Yankees.

I just tuned in to the game and was wondering the same thing. How has he been working with Butler. JBJ and Holt didn't help this inning. It's getting away from them. It sucks back to back games with Porcello and Eovaldi that have been disasters.

Holt tried to back hand that, you gotta get in front of that. Lyons doesn't know what he is talking about.

Well, Red Sox - get it ALL out of your system tonight - crap the bed. The flush it and find your focus and mojo tomorrow!
Who on the team (position players) can eat some innings tonight?
