Somehow that has to be predictive for the playoffs, right?

This team is something to watch, huh? Each night, always seems like a new contributor. That bodes well for September.
And my god, what a story Swihart has been. So happy for him and excited for him to be a part of this franchise for longer.

And just take solace in the fact that Yankees fans are crying watching this game until they quit watching a few batters ago. I'm guessing the MFY fans have a site that is similar to this one, and if I didn't feel like I'd be soiled searching it out..... I bet it isn't a lot of fun over there tonight. This seems to be it - and they are not having fun. www.nyyfansforum.com/showthread.php/137929-2018-Regular-Season-Thread/page527

That is GOLD. But... seriously... “regular season thread”? I don’t have time to read 500+ pages of Yankee fan kvetching. Who am I kidding. Goodbye Saturday!

We peaked at 52 games over .500 - we are now at 51. We have as many wins as we had all of last year.
Fun night, fellas - a real roller coaster. Catch you tomorrow night!

Why's the MVP talk only includes Mookie and JDM? Where's the the JBJ love?

I guess it’s hard for the Yanks if it isn’t the Orioles.

So happy for him and excited for him to be a part of this franchise for longer. He really looks like he’s turned a corner. Idk that he ever becomes the All-Star we’d all hoped, but he definitely looks like a valuable role-player and potentially a solid regular going forward. He’s been better catching (at least by eyeball testing) than CW claimed these last couple years, and I’ve still got (I think reasonable) hope that he’s a 100-115 wRC+ player in the future. Maybe he really does fit the “C-as-late-bloomer” paradigm.

Start reading at page 426 and go to about page 451. It's not necessarily a game thread type of thing, but it's the reactions from the 4 game series - the New Boston Massacre! Have fun.

Amazing game. Somehow the 2018 Red Sox aren't out of a game until they're out of it.
Lifeless for 6 innings they spring to life with a 4 run 7th with Mookie's HR being the big blow - that thing was towering.
Then they have an even bigger explosion in the 9th. Big hit by JBJ who has been consistent for the past couple of months - which is what you'd hope for. He doesn't need 1 month of scorching hot and 5 mediocre to bad months. Just consistency and that's what he's had. His new hitting mechanics are working for him.
And JDM was well overdue. Nice to see an opposite field HR for him.
Porcello hasn't been overly sharp in awhile. He is a starter that can use a breather. Doubt they'll skip him at any point, but maybe they can give him some additional days of rest and keep his pitch count low, especially if they get to some meaningless games.
And it's nice to say that the bullpen had a strong game. Kelly still makes me nervous. Not really a huge believer in him. Brasier looked good though, which is important.
Which is getting closer. The Yankees took an ugly loss tonight. They've tripped over the White Sox and Tigers at home losing 3 of 4, which is not something you can do when you're the home team.
I'm not ready to declare the race over, but the Yankees sure don't act like a team that's totally got their act together. They look like a strong team for about a week, and then they trip over teams they have no business losing to. Good.

There's never been a day this year (excluding head-to-head) when it looked like we were going to pick up a game on the Yankees (based on our Win Probability > .75 and theirs < .25, each at some point in the game) and the opposite happened. But this is the third time this year that we turned the tables on their expectations, and it's probably the most killer.
On April 8 we had .015 in the 8th inning against the Rays, trailing 7-2 with 2 outs and a man on 2nd, and ran off 6 straight hits to score 6 off of Andriese and Colome. Meanwhile, the Yankees went up 5-0 with men on 2nd and 3rd and 2 outs in the bottom of the 1st, for .905, and still had an .801 in the 6th, leading 6-4. They ended up losing 8-7 in 12 after loading the bases with nobody out, with Judge and Stanton up; Judge hit into your standard 1-2-5 DP and Stanton fanned.
May 26th was a lot less dramatic; we were down to .233 in the top of the 3rd against the Braves (trailing 3-0 with 2 on and 2 outs) and took the lead for good in the 6th, and the Yanks got up to .805 in the 2nd (up 4-1) against the Angels, but lost the lead in the 4th.
Tonight we came back from .042, on the road, while the Yankees blew .962 at home.
We are 20-7 in these games this year. The Yanks are 15-14. In the second half of August, the Yanks are 4-2, with Neil Walker recording the team-high WPA in all 4 comebacks.

Geiger was one of my favorite players when I first started religiously following the Sox in the late 50s, early 60s (OMG!). I saw him hit a line drive homer to CF at Fenway on a hot August night. There was no Sweet Caroline at the time.

JBJ’s single was beautiful. Got caught out in front, had to scoop at the ball a bit, still ripped it into right field. Huge.
- fWAR up to 2.4 and 2nd Half wRC+ to 125 - Pull% down 11% in the second half - LD% actually down 2.5% but he’s cut his IFFB down 5% - HR/FB was much lower than career average in 1H, but it’s nearly doubled in 2H so it was expected progression to the mean
He may end up getting pretty big money after all, especially if he shows up in the playoffs
