This is a thread to build what you think the 2015 team will look like. Include position players, starting rotation, and bullpen. Keep in mind players that are not under contract in that year and prospects that will be ready by then.
This is what I have put together:
Lineup: C- Ryan Lavarnway 1B- Matt Adams (Acquired via trade) 2B- Dustin Pedroia SS- Xander Bogaerts 3B- Will Middlebrooks LF- Bryce Brentz CF- Jackie Bradley RF- Ryan Kalish DH- Mauro Gomez or Travis Shaw (I think Papi will retire by then)
Starting Rotation: 1. Buchholz 2. Rubby De La Rosa 3. Matt Barnes 4. Allen Webster 5. Felix Doubront
Britton, Workman, and Owens are also possibilities
Bullpen: Daniel Bard -Set-up Andrew Bailey -Set-up Junichi Tazawa -Closer Andrew Miller -LH Specialist Franklin Morales -LH Specialist Craig Breslow -LH Speicalis Clay Mortensen -Middle Relief Alex Wilson -Middle Relief

Well, this should be fun, but to think that our whole team will be homegrown is a bit unrealistic.
1. CF. Jackie Bradley Jr. 2. 1B. Travis Shaw 3. 2B. Dustin Pedroia 4. 3B. Will Middlebrooks 5. LF. Blake Swihart 6. SS. Xander Bogaerts 7. RF. Brandon Jacobs 8. C. Christian Vasquez 9. DH Ryan Lavrnway
Rotation 1. Rubby De La Rosa 2. Tim Lincecum 3. Matt Barnes 4. Jon Lester 5. Henry Owens
Bullpen this is such a shot in the dark: I'll name three
Set Up: Junichi Tazawa Closer: Daniel Bard Loogy: Drake Britton
After Tim Lincecum finishes 2nd in the 2013 Cy Young voting he is traded to Boston for Bryce Brentz and Allen Webster
Rubby blossoms and remains healthy , Xander is able to stick at SS, but Swihart needs to move out from behind the plate because his bat is simply too good and he's taking too much abuse for his size. He eventually moves to LF after trying 2B in the minors and will go on to win a batting title in 2016... After toiling in AAA for all of 2014 Travis Shaw is finally called up and manages a .850 OPS that is OBP heavy. But he only manages like 10HR for a non-typical 1B .... But we all love him because our SS mashes.

This is a fun exercise. I remember Theo once saying if he had his druthers, he would have preferred an all-homegrown team. The closest Red Sox team in my memory to do that were the 1988 Red Sox.
For 2015:
C: Blake Swihart (knocking on the door perhaps in competition with Lavarnway) 1B: Travis Shaw 2B: Dustin Pedroia SS: Xander Bogaerts 3B: Will Middlebrooks LF: Garin Cecchini (or Brandon Jacobs?) CF: Jackie Bradley Jr. RF: Bryce Brentz DH: ?? (Free agent pickup)
SP: Rubby De La Rosa SP: Matt Barnes SP: Allen Webster SP: Steven Wright SP: Henry Owens (Buchholz and Doubront get dealt?)
Honestly, I like Shaw, but the Sox might look for bigger production at 1b.
They might also look for bigger production in LF - my guess is Cecchini winds up dealt and I'm not sure Jacobs will bounce back.
It's very possible that by then Marrero might be at SS, with Bogaerts in a corner OF position, assuming WMB is still the 3b.
My guess is that like LF and 1b, the Sox go outside of the organization for a DH.
I would also hope the Sox would be looking to sign David Price for the 2015 season (although he'd probably wind up in pinstripes as their financials shackles come off that 2014-2015 offseason) and I'd also hope the Sox would be gearing up to get their hands on Stanton for the 2016 season.

Why not! I've decided that one of our pitching prospects won't make it as a starter and that we may actually try to sign a free agent. Lineup: C- Brian McCann 1B- Kendrys Morales 2B- Dustin Pedroia SS- Xander Bogaerts 3B- Will Middlebrooks LF- Bryce Brentz/FA LH COF CF- Jackie Bradley RF- Shane Victorino DH- Ryan Lavarnway/(Rotational) Starting Rotation: 1. Clay Buchholz 2. Matt Barnes 3. Allen Webster 4. Felix Doubront 5. John Lackey Bullpen: ??

1. CF - Jackie Bradley 2. 2B - Dustin Pedroia 3. LF - Xander Bogaerts 4. 3B - Will Middlebrooks 5. 1B - Travis Shaw 6. C - Ryan Lavarnway 7. DH - Brandon Jacobs (but more likely a free agent, I don't actually think Jacobs would DH) 8. SS - Devin Marrero 9. RF - Shane Victorino
SP: Clay Buchholz SP: Allen Webster SP: Matt Barnes SP: Felix Doubront SP: Brian Johnson
Closer: Rubby De La Rosa RP: Junichi Tazawa RP: Daniel Bard RP: Alex Wilson RP: Brandon Workman RP: Drake Britton RP: Chris Hernandez
I agree with 0407champs that they make look for an upgrade over Shaw at 1B. If they could find a middle order bat they could plug him in at the 4 spot and push everyone down one. Of course the odds of the actual lineup even mildly resembling this are slim to none with trades/free agency.....but this is always fun and I'd be lying if I said I don't already do this in my spare time.

I'm not sure how to go with this. I really hate to assume all homegrown, but...
C: McCann 1B: Lavarnway 2B: Pedroia 3B: Middlebrooks SS: Bogaerts RF: Bradley CF: Ellsbury LF: Jacobs
Bench: IF: Iglesias C: Vazquez OF: Victorino
SP: De La Rosa SP: Lester SP: Buccholz SP: Webster SP: Verlander
LHRP: Britton RHRP: Bard LHRP: Morales RHRP: Tazawa RHRP: Wilson 3 more random relievers.
In AAA starting pitching depth you would have Workman and Barnes kicking down the door, also my new binky; Wright.

I know this is a fantasy exercise on some level, but having Swihart and Owens ready for the show in 2015 is just silly. They're projected for A+ this year and they both have a TON of development ahead of them. That's A+ this year and AA in 2014 and skipping AAA? Just not going to happen.

In my scenario I have him (Swihart) moving out from behind the plate.... He mashes in 2013 and splits time between Salem and Portland. 2014 he splits time between Portland and Pawtucket , starts as a 2B and eventually ends up in the outfield.... I don't see why that is soooo unrealistic. If he's tearing it up prospects have moved a hell of a lot faster.

Man, Jon Lester will be 31 in 2015 and more than half the people have him long gone or a #4 starter. Really sucks to have a bad year around here...

If he rebounds, then we're talking $20 million/year for at least 5 years. If he's mediocre, the we're talking $12 - $15 million. The Sox in my opinion would move in another direction.

Plus, he makes mean faces at umps, and that's really bad...
But seriously, I could easily see him rebounding and ending up signing a team friendly deal this year or next. It's certainly more likely than acquiring Kershaw or getting Verlander as your #5 starter.
I get that this thread is about dreams and not really realism, but my main point is that I'm continually stunned by how down everyone seems to be on Lester. What has this guy really done to piss everyone off? And not just on this site, but to all Sox fans. Is it really because he was involved in the chicken and beer stuff and makes meany faces at umps? Obviously, there's a horrible double standard against baseball, but Boston fans, in general, LOVE KG and Rondo, but despise Jon Lester??? I just don't get it...

The best college hitter in the country. Obviously things would have to go very very right for him to be a big leaguer in 2015, but one can always hope dream.

He pitched lousy down the stretch in 2011 when the Sox needed him to come up big and he was lousy last year. It's nothing personal. And if he did rebound, which I hope he does, why would he sign a team friendly contract? I think it's time to get back to talking about the kids of 2015. It's more fun.
