Pomeranz has done nothing for us all year, lost multiple games to the Orioles... he can't even eat innings anymore. Yeah, he's really had a bad year. It's tough to sugarcoat. Put into context though, he's a free agent in a couple months and the Red Sox are going to win like 108 games with him doing badly. He's done himself a lot more harm than he's done to the team.

The only way he could hurt this team is if he somehow winds up on the post-season roster. I know they don't have a lefty in the pen, but I'd hope they'd keep the best 7 or 8 relievers/starters not named Sale, Price, Porcello, or E-Rod.

The good news is that the high leverage relievers will now get two days off as will Mookie, JDM, and Bogaerts.

And they also have an off-day after the Astros series concludes and they have an off-day prior to the Yankee series. Rest is good.

If they put a guy with a 6.00+ ERA on the postseason ERA on the postseason roster, is the guy with the 6.00+ ERA the one hurting the team in that situation? I mean, if the Red Sox put Dedgar Jimenez at shortstop in a playoff game he'd be a pretty severe liability but it would be hard to call it Jimenez's fault.

Its frustrating but you're right, thats a good way of thinking about it. Especially if this game knocks him off the post season roster. This doesn't look like a game we would've won anyway so at least we got some rest out of it.

So based on last year, Pom was potentially our #2 starter if his corner-turn stuck. Obviously that didn't happen. Then E-Rod started pitching like a #2 but got injured. Then Price pitched like a #2 (or even a #1), now a bad-luck injury. Plus Sale has missed time 6 starts and counting. It is patently insane that this team has done as well as it has. They've won as if each of those guys pitched at their peak all season instead of the fits and starts of reality. Really looking forward to/crossing fingers for a full-health rotation come October.

Why can't they let the tomohawk chop die? It's the most annoying thing in a baseball park other than the drum in Oakland. I'm close to changing the order of those two things since I'm listening on headphones. [br Majot League sports teams were new to the more rural South when the Braves moved to Atlanta, which was NOT Hotlanta at the time. College teams in football, baseball, basketball, ruled, and still do, and college games are noisy. It's actually a wonderful tradition, as Pats and Bruins games demonstrate The Atlanta Braves were the only Southern MLB team for years and still dominate that market, a market chock full of noisy college teams, including Tallahassee and Gainesville, (despite the Rays & Marlins). The UF Gators in "the Swamp" used the alligator "chomp". As best as I can remember, the FSU Seminoles used the tomahawk "chop" long before I went to grad school there in the mid-60's. And the Braves were the Panhandle and 'Noles "home team". In the 80's the Braves simply appropriated the chop and song from the 'Noles, a pretty organic development. Noise? I would love for the Royal Rooters and their band to re-emerge and march from the Cask to the Park for every home game. A blast from the past for the future. But headache inducing cowbells? Noise for the sake of noise in an empty park? I have left good games at the Trop because of them.

I just love the quiet anticipation in between pitches interrupted by the roar of the crowd when something good happens. Baseball is not football in any possible way. I get that some teams might need gimmicks, but do they have to be that annoying? And even using some Native American stereotype when absolutely no one involved in the Braves is Native American. It’s awful and I’m so glad we don’t have to play them 19 times a year.

I am firmly in the "okay with teams promoting noisy and even gimmicky stuff but the Tomahawk Chop is specifically bad" camp.

This team is so good that even Drew Pomeranz can’t single-handedly lose them games.

If this were any team but this year's Sox, I would say this is a shocking performance.

This team is so good that even Drew Pomeranz can’t single-handedly lose them games. Pitching Drew Pomeranz is the team saying "I'm going to duel him left-handed," Inigo Montoya style.

That --rally-- was unexpected on getaway day!
Love to get Kinsler home here. Boegarts can do it.

I really don't think I can bring myself to watch any more of this. Fortunately I lied.

This is one of the best expanded roster games ever. It’s so awesome to get to pick when you want Mookie to bat.
