Yeah, gotta hate having that boat anchor Porcello with his 1.143 OPS come to the dish. I truly don't understand how people cannot find NL ball MUCH more interesting. So much more strategy in play. I know it will never ever happen, but I'd love to see the DH abolished (now that Papi is retired, of course). Pitchers are automatic outs. There's no strategy in the first 5 innings generally. In fact, the offense suffers and it becomes unwatchable. Porcello is a complete outlier in this case in very SSS. Obviously, I was cherry picking dubious stats to make my shaky point. I still prefer the NL rules.

Looks like squander city again. Odd thing to post with 1 out and JD and Xander coming up.

I would definitely hit for him here. I know we wont, but I absolutely would.

Just looked at Sandy's offensive stats, didn't think they were as bad as that. OPS of .560 ouch.

Big fan of Pearce, awesome pickup by DD. It really was. I was shocked he was available that cheaply. Still seems very surprising.

I know it’s only the 5th inning but I would have been fine if they pinch hit for Leon in that spot

Really Really Really hope Cora doesn't let leon hit in a big spot during the playoffs.

Well, at least we scored a few, but we let a lot of opportunity slide the last two innings. Hope it doesn't come back to bite us.

It’s hard to believe but Sandy Leon was batting .260 at one point in July. He’s now at .193

Well, that's why I said I knew they wouldn't. But with Porcello at 83 pitches and a chance to blow the game open, it would have been the right move. If Porcello really can't handle pitching to Vazquez for what was very likely his last inning, that's pathetic.

Porecello has been a very valuable pitcher for us. But him throwing swihart under the bus a few years ago and what seems like only wanting to pitch to leon is annoying. Your a professional pitcher deal with it. I don't have anything to back me up but i feel like porcellos preference with leon makes cora reluctant to pinch hit for leon in key spots like that one.

Not spectacular, but overall fairly encouraging from Porcello. If he gives us 5IP/1 R in his postseason starts, we're going to be really hard to beat.

If Leon is hitting as poorly as he is, the Sox need to start looking at other things to value when he comes up to bat. At some point, offense needs to matter. With those numbers, it's hard to argue that Leon should be hitting there.

Philips is starting tomorrow? Don't like the sound of that. That makes me think Holt at SS, and we're just resting guys rather than go for a W with Velasquez vs Foltynewicz.
