Imagine if the Cubs and Yankees both lost the wild card game? I'd have to call my doctor after 4 hours. lol, I'd call a newspaper.

That's the way it played, sure, but Ottavino is a better pitcher than Davis. I was surprised at the timing of taking out Freeland. He was on short rest so it kinda makes sense

The thing I don't understand is the gore steal, Ottavino didn't even look over. Butera the defensive replacement didn't even bother throwing. I guess they were trading a strike for second base.

I was surprised at the timing of taking out Freeland. He was on short rest so it kinda makes sense I was aware but he still looked sharp, two outs and had just gotten a soft line drive out and wasn't pinch hit for the inning before.

This game could go forever. Maddon is already using a starter in Cole Hammels who's stretched out.

Maddon is letting Gore hit, who can't even hit in AA.

Leadoff walks never end well

Your batter called timeout before the pitch. Pay attention joe

This might be the longest at bat in the history of the postseason. 3 timeouts in the middle of it.

Things I have learned this game: NL baseball is terrible.

Things I have learned this game: NL baseball is terrible. Reminder, Gore has 2 at bats because you need to pinch hit multiple times and double switch because the pitcher has to hit. It really is the dumbest rule in baseball, the pitcher hitting. It is 1800's baseball.

man, Cubs fans really want Chili Davis gone, and have for a while now. They didn't have a terrible offensive year as a whole, but their power dropped and they also finished second to the Orioles in most games scoring 1 run or less.
I think hitting coaches tend to get blamed too quickly, but I will say I think Hyers (and JD) have helped players like Betts and Bogey reach a next level that Chili/Victor couldn't.

And tomorrow a 98 or more team will be eliminated while a 90 win team watches at home.

This is the second year in a row where Chilli Davis had his offense underperform with 2 different teams. Both teams had declining power too. I don't blame them.

Interesting stat. The Rockies are the only team in baseball that had every start all season, be by a pitcher that hadn't been on another ML team roster.
I saw that the other day, Elias ?

Another interesting stat. The Rockie's first run came from a leadoff walk to start the game. That was Lester's first game start leadoff walk all year.

Yesterday was also the first playoff game I believe that the Cubs used 23 different players in. I don't know if that's a Cubs record or a MLB record.
Nervous about today. Oakland is going full bullpen game in a elimination game. Liam Hendricks is the "opener." Their rotation isn't good, so I sort of don't blame them. Hopefully Oakland brings the bats.
I really don't want to face the Yankees because of blood pressure related reasons. I'll pass lol.

It is not like had no control over their own destiny. They had two chances to avoid that fate.
