Thornburg entering spring training healthy and participating from the very beginning. If he can return to form I will feel much more confident about our bullpen.

So I (wrongly) assumed minor league Spring Training would start a little earlier since the MLB season started a little earlier and will be down in Ft Myers March 9-14th, any idea what will be going on in the back fields before games start on the 13th? Full day camps? Half day camps? Intrasquad games? Jut trying to gauge how badly I screwed up lol.

Im honestly starting to miss Bud Selig... He was bad too, but he was better at not saying the quiet part out loud.

I shudder to think about a Chris Sale contract. Will he take less than Price? Because I don't think that's the market anymore.

For future reference it's better to back out the dates from MiLB Opening Day than to follow the MLB schedule. That said unless you were really hoping to see games I think you'll be fine. Last wave of minor leaguers ought to be reporting as you arrive and may not be out there the first day thanks to physicals etc. Sunday 3/10 will probably be only a morning workout. I would think you'd get some intrasquad activity on the 11th/12th. Sometimes instead of doing the workout/break/afternoon game schedule they run right from workouts into little scrimmages and then wrap for the day--or, on the 11th, they might set up some work for the big league pitchers with minor leaguers batting since it's an off day for the big club.

Interesting development for JBJ. Not sure if he is going to bring this swing with him in season or not.

Is run production by our offense going to rise, decline or stay about the same as last year with benintendi leading off instead of Mookie this year?

Interesting development for JBJ. Not sure if he is going to bring this swing with him in season or not. Are you kidding? That is THE swing for JBJ. I've always complained about how much noise he has in his hands before he starts swinging and that completely fixed that problem. What if he is the next JDM? haha I've always been a big JBJ fan and this is the most excited I've been about him. That swing is seriously sweet and when you know what kind of natural power he has, it's hard not to get really excited about it. edit - I've watched that about 10 times now and just start laughing about how amazing that swing looks. Buy low if you're a fantasy player!

Buy low if you're a fantasy player! Yeah, it’s tough not to be super excited. I remember you and I (and a couple others) hollering about how much of a difference there was in his wOBA and xwOBA last May/early June. A few folks were talking about how terrible he was, but we were on the “positive regression” train. The chat he had around the ASB with Wallenbrock, JDM’s guy, and the results were definitely better in the second half. He was talking about doing an offseason remake, and this looks like he did just that. I mean, he’s a pretty small guy but he hit some 440-ft BOMBS last year. He’s got major raw power, and he scorches when he gets hot. He could be a beast if quieting things down and staying in-plane helps him elevate and not get busted inside. I don’t even wanna say what I think he’s capable of, because it sounds silly to me, and I’ll probably get major flak for it. So I’ll simply say that it might finally be time to see minor-league JBJ in the majors, only with 30-HR power.

First ST game this week - this is so tantalizing. I've never wanted an off season to go by so fast - totally ready to see what Cora and the boys can do for an encore....

Is run production by our offense going to rise, decline or stay about the same as last year with benintendi leading off instead of Mookie this year? I say about the same. Swapping Benintendi and Mookie should lead to more opportunities with men on base for the best hitter on the team. That’s never a bad thing. But I think it’s likely Mookie and JDM regress somewhat. My hope is that their regression is countered by natural improvements from Devers and maybe even Benintendi. And maybe we get “second half of 2018” Bradley for a whole season for once.

My hope is that their regression is countered by natural improvements from Devers and maybe even Benintendi. And maybe we get “second half of 2018” Bradley for a whole season for once. I know folks are convinced those two will come back to earth, but JDM has a track record (and honestly, signs that last year was simply evolutionary improvement predicted by his adjustments, especially post-lisfranc). And I saw an article on the fangraphs site that asked the question: are breakouts like Mookie and Bregman sustainable? And the verdict was that Mookie was a lot more likely to be sustainable, because his backspin %ile and FB distance actually came down...which sounds counterintuitive, but actually means that his performance was due to reproducible hard contact and not a reliance on backspin for distance. I suppose it’s fair to expect some regression, because their seasons were both so stupidly good. But I can honestly say that I think both, and Mookie in particular, are simply establishing new performance levels. JDM will start aging, but Mookie theoretically hasn’t even hit his power prime yet. I think Benintendi takes a step forward this year and gets his OBP up around .400 (.315/.400/.520 or so, should hit 40 2b and 25 HR if he can figure out last year’s 2nd-half power outage). I also think he’ll be helped by better hitting at the back of the order, with last year’s 7-8-9 a black hole most of the season. I like this change; I think there’s a good chance JBJ goes buck wild and moves up to make it Beni-Mookie-JBJ-JDM-Devers-Bogey-Pearce-C-2B. I genuinely am convinced second-half 2018 JBJ (with his new swing cemented by the offseason of work) is only the tip of the iceberg. I think he’ll look like his minor-league self, only with 25-30 HR power. Even if he stays 6-7-9 and Bogey 3, I think this lineup is going to surprise people. I think they outscore last year’s team, maybe by 30-50 runs.

Love it. He really has the stuff to be the real deal. Needs to get to the 6th inning sometimes and stay healthy and keep mechanics/deception. A lot to ask, but all feasible.
