I remember Eric Van talking about Eddie’s pitch movement and how the slider was too similar to his CH (both vertical, the CH having little horizontal movement if I recall). If he can throw a genuine SL with some tilt, some 2-plane movement...he could be real nasty. It’s been cool watching him rework his arsenal. I love the increased 4-seam use, and I think keeping the sinker to mix with the CH, and having a real slider...oh, man. If you look at the pitches with the highest whiff rates across baseball, they’re almost exclusively sliders. Getting the velo down and creating some separation from the 2-FB and CH...broadening his velo range...I’m pumped to see what he does. He is on the cusp of greatness. Totally random but “new pitch” talk always gets me going...I wish more guys threw SF and screwballs.

Spent some time watching footage and that thing is the real deal. Absolutely filthy. Never got to see Valenzuela, so I’m excited to have him in the division for a while (at least until he hits Arb2 and the Rays trade him).

Swihart at C is a good thing. I wonder who the mystery fireballer is.

I'm fairly certain he was joking around.

Heck of a sneaky way to announce a Kimbrel signing.

Guesses on what pants size Triston Casas wears?
I'll go with 38 42.

Saw some scuttle that the fireballer is Ellington. Would make sense. I'm going to try to find the tweets or article or whatever it was.

Never got to see Valenzuela, so I’m excited to have him in the division for a while (at least until he hits Arb2 and the Rays trade him). I *LOVE* Honeywell’s screwball. I’m not the one who brought it up but I do know the series of posts you’re talking about. I get why it’s discouraged as a pitch (the extreme pronation puts a lot of torque on the elbow), but the movement...it’s just wild. I think Honeywell’s is better than Valenzuela’s, too. It’s a legit pitch, true screwball. For some reason, the idea just fascinates me...and the rarity obviously adds to that. Not the same class, because the screwball is so rare, but I also always found Jose Contreras’s forkball really exciting. It just had such *brutal* late diving action, and often it would tail or bite too. Kind of like a knuckler, but at 80 mph. I think if anyone’s going to come up with some weird new pitch these days, it’s Trevor Bauer. I remember reading somewhere he had experimented with a gyroball, but it never went anywhere. Regardless, I wish the Sox would acquire Honeywell just so I could watch him pitch all the time. The screwball really is a trip.

Crushed!!
And then he makes up for it by throwing the ball about 120 mph over the 1st baseman's head.
NESN has some work to do. It looks like the game is being played in the dark.
Hernandez is filthy. Looks like a better version of ERod.

Good to see Chavis come in as a 2B, although he did have a fielding error.

Good to see Dalbec hit the HR, but if we're being honest... look at the pitch he hit. #BPfastball

Good to see Chavis come in as a 2B, although he did have a fielding error. A BSJ article said that he has been practicing almost exclusively at 2B this spring. As for the error, I’m ok with it. It’s his first game action at second and I liked his thought process on the play.

It’s his first game action at second and I liked his thought process on the play. For those who didn't see it, he tried to quickly pick up a grounder to tag a guy out who was running by him and he dropped it. It probably would have been tough to get the guy at first too, so I'm not even sure if it was an error. But then at least he turned a double play to make up for it.

I wish I could have seen Hernandez pitch today. He seems electric. You read about him and think the next Andrew Miller or Josh Hader. Multiple inning lefty with a 95-100 mph fastball and a nasty slider.

Multiple inning lefty with a 95-100 mph fastball and a nasty slider. He looked great. His best secondary seems to be his curve, not a slider though. He still needs to be developed as a starter IMO because those are so much more difficult to obtain and he looks like he can be a good one. But they should definitely line his innings limit up with him contributing in the bullpen towards the end of the season.

The one nitpick that I would be pressed to tell Cora this spring training is to give reps to Benintendi at RF in spring training. Benny isn't a good CF anymore, but he certainly could be a better RF in Fenway than JDM. The games didn't matter by the end of the year because of the huge lead in the division, but JDM was playing in RF by the end of the year in Fenway because the Sox didn't want Benny in CF anymore.

Multiple inning lefty with a 95-100 mph fastball and a nasty slider. Yeah, but nobody is electric against Northeastern - no offense to the Huskies. I agree that he should be developed as a starter, but there's a pretty decent chance he's in the Sox pen this year, at least. Pena was pretty good on the broadcast, by the way. At I thought so in the 3 or so innings I was paying attention to. Interesting to see how he does once the real games begin. Better than Lyons, for sure.

He has gotten very smooth behind the mike, and when Dave O’B let him talk he had some good insights.
